Would strength training schedule/methods affect results?

I hope this will make sense. I am trying to focus more on strength training and toning now that I believe my body seems to be happy with the number on the scale (at least I've plateaued for 1.5 years). I was wondering if it matters as per results what kind(s) of strength training you do.
Here's what I was planning on doing. Feel free to critique.
I was planning on doing strength (whole body) 4 days one week then 3 days the next week. Of course, I would do some cardio in there and take 1-2 rest days. I have planned on combining some ChaLean Extreme workouts into one, which involves heavier weights at lower reps. Then, I was thinking I would also do some toning/strength workouts that involve lighter weights and/or bands a couple of the other days of the week.
Does it matter that I would vary between heavy weights and lighter weights/bands in the same week? Would I still "firm up" and get results, or does it HAVE to be one way or the other? I have done two rounds of CLX, and even though you change the workouts each month, I got bored. I want to avoid that but still get results, hence trying to vary the workouts.
Please let me know if this doesn't make sense or needs clarification. Thanks!

i think the varying weights is a good idea...high rep low weights sometimes and high weight low rep others...because even tho the later is technically suppose to be better for muscle growth, they seem to work on the body differently...and besides- cross training is so important so ur body doesnt get to comfortable with one thing....so i think that sounds good0
