I CANT STOP SNACKING

I keep moaning and then making my self snap out of it and I tell myself I have to stop snacking, but I really am struggling.

I will eat; I will know i'm full but I will want something sweet like chocolate and then I will have it and mope after.

I'm hoping this is just because i'm stuck in the house, I have exams at the moment and i'm in alot of the time, I would go for a walk but it's cold and miserable outside.

Before my exams started I was so upbeat and happy and wanted to go out running and healthy eating but now it's just faded and I feel tired alot. Also at the gym I get a bad belly and feel like I need to go home.

Is this just because i've been sedentary for a while? I'm hoping my motivated sporty side will come back soon, my last exam is next week.

I am a huge snacker too. I keep my meals smallish for snack room. :-) What I have found though is that if I don't eat enough, the snack attacks will come hard. Make sure your meals have enough calories in them, and are filling. That could make a difference. But if you REALLY want chocolate etc...just have a small amount of exactly what you want. Otherwise you will end up eating some crackers, an apple, and THEN some chocolate instead of just the chocolate. :-)

The nasty cycle of this though is that eating the junk actually is making you feel worse, even more than the fact mentally that you are eating it. If you must snack find some healthy ones you can snack on all day. Also if you must eat chocolate buy some that is actually good for you. Anything 70% of higher of cocoa is actually good for you. It will say this on the label actually so there is no guessing. Keep your head up girl and put a smile back on that pretty face of yours!! You learn better when you are smiling. =0)

I know the feeling, especially around finals week.

Make a few snack bags of blueberries and stick them in the fridge. Half a cup is a good amount and it's only about 45 calories, so you won't feel as bad if you have a second. I have been doing this for awhile and last night I won't to have a piece of chocolate, but was totally turned off after one bite. Sounds crazy, but it's true.

Keep good snack in the house. Fruit, yogurt, granola, etc... Pay attention to the nutrition not just the calories. Make sure you are getting enough GOOD carbs, fat, and protein.

I snack ALL the time. I just plan them into my day (you can switch your diary to have a snack between each meal and after dinner. I l also purposely leave a little room in my day (like 200-300 calories) so I can just graze and not log those calories. I pick on things like fruit, carrots, small handfuls of trader joe's air popped pop corn, pistachios, almonds, etc...

I have found apples, carrots, and watermelon to be the most filling (especially the watermelon).

    good luck!

Snacking is my number one problem. I will be perfect all day long, but after work and as soon as I get home until I go to bed, I become a snack monster. I usually manage to keep it within my calorie goal for the day, but I always regret wasting the calories on junk at the end of the day.

My number two problem is alcohol on the weekends...

JustBill so here is what I have learned from a nutritionist and trainer. Yes the calories are empty and sometimes a lot on the alcohol but its not the alcohol that ruins your work outs and dieting it is how intoxicated you get. So once you become drunk then you stop everything you have been working on sometimes up to a week. So if you can keep it to one or two and find something you can just enjoy the taste of and avoid the drunk part. Cheers! I know the feeling....grrrr! Dirty Martinis are my weakness.

I have lost the weight I've lost in the past 5 weeks or so simply by watching my calories. I put in myfitnesspal that I do little to no exercise and want to lose 2 lbs per week. So far I've lost 15-20 - not bad for 5 weeks. I have been snacking all along.

The key, for me, was finding snacks that don't go overboard...in other words, no 300 calorie candy bars. How about a 100 calorie pack of cookies after lunch and a Twinkie after dinner? Twinkies are only 150 calories - same with Zingers. I was fitting a couple of snacks per day into my diet with a cap of 1630 cal per day. Considering I used to eat about 3000 calories a day and probably had a few 4000 days here and there, that's pretty good! If I have 300 calories leftover at the end of the day, I might eat a 50 calorie "light" string cheese, Twinkie, and a 25 calorie cup of peaches...add all that in on top of dinner and I'm feeling nice and full!

My wife and I were talking about this just the other night... if we could learn to stop at two it probably wouldn't be so bad... but three and four are some of my favorites! LOL. But yeah, I'm hoping to start limiting the alcohol a bit more.

... and we're both on our third glasses of wine for the night... LOL. So much for the non alcohol pledge.

I'm terrible at snacking especially on the weekends, I'm trying to think of something i can do on a weekend that will keep my hands busy because a few weeks ago I spent all day in the garden raking and doing various other things and didn't eat until dinner.
But what to do? The more I can do the less I will snack!

findalthy snacks, one i heard o on doctor oz last week is melt some dark chocolate and dip small peanut butter balls in it, have them in the fridge, and eat one or 2 for a snack, gives you the choco fix, but it's like 140 calories for 2 or 3. and it's still good for you

I get into periods where I don't eat meals and I just consume snacks all day.

Just log everything, and make sure you stay on track the best you can.

Thanks, it will help stop the feeling of feeling deprived. You're proof that you can snack appropriately and still lose weight.
    Great job!
