Poor Broccolli! How/Why Do They Do That?

How on earth do these restaurants do it? They take good fresh food and pump it so full of garbage!

My latest adventure was to O'Charley's. Which side item should you choose? Don't go for the broccolli. I looked it up.
This nice, fresh green veggie under their care, becomes a mountain of fat! (http://www.ocharleys.com/nutrition/)

Broccolli, one serving: 140 calories, 10g fat, 10mg Cholesterol, 1130mg Sodium, 5g Fiber, 4g Sugar, 5g Protein.

We are talking "skip the broccolli, take the beer" numbers, people!

Have you had any similar nasty surprises when eating out?

My favorite words that follow any sort vegetable at a restaurant "no butter" or better yet "DRY!" I want my potato dry, my steamed veggies dry and I want my darn salad DRY! TYVM! :)

We just have to be aware of the way we order. The brocolli is probably loaded with salted butter. And salads are loaded with cheese, and dressing, sometimes croutons. Ask for dressing on the side or even bring your own.

I agree, it's disgusting... No wonder why we have an obesity problem here in the states!

Went to Chili's with some friends a while ago and one of girlfriends (who is skinny/healthy/fit so you'd think she'd know better) assumed that ordering the salad would be the best option for me until I showed her the nutritional information I got off their website! Turned out the grilled chicken with rice and beans was actually better - go figure!

Try ordering it without sauce, or butter, or "dry" as suggested above.

You can always ask for your broccoli steamed instead....I've never been to a restaurant that wouldn't do that instead for me.

I was a bit amazed at a Harvey's double bacon burger (one of my first maintenance splurges). 2,625 mg sodium!
I get thirsty just thinking about it! Oh and if you get the fries and add no extra salt to them - guess what? They already have 950 mg sodium! A total combo of 3,575 mg sodium! Wow! Might as well get a salt-lick for a horse!

My dad, my daughters and I went to Burker King for lunch last weekend. I should mention, I had a salad even though the fries smelled amazingly good! Anyhow, the order taker girl asked my dad what size he wanted. He replied "medium". When we go to the table he didnt believe me that the small is now the medium, the medium is a large and the old large...is now what used to be the King Size. And then people wonder why there is an obesity problem in the US! Oh and the old small drink...is now the drink size for a child's meal!
