also what are the key things i need to look for when getting one?
  • I have one that I bought at our local grocery store for about $4. I use it all the time for vegetables. I don't think that you need to look for anything specific with it.
  • Love my steamer! I bought an electric one several years ago and I think it cost around $25. I use it for rice (bowl for cooking rice came with it), shrimp, fish, vegetables, etc. Mine is one that has two baskets that stack so you can cook more than one thing at a time.

Hey Kennie. I own/use a steamer. Mine is two tiered. I cook alot of my chicken and fish and all my vegetables with it. I like it for the convenience. I put the food in,season it, set the timer in reference to whats in it and wait for the ding. If you are a busy person its nice to work while its cooking on its own. Plus, there arent alot of dishes to wash when you are done. I'm not sure how to give you guidance for purchasing one. I bought the medium range priced one and have had it roughly 2 and a half years with alot of use. The one I bought came with a book on timing for any food I could think of as well as hints how to change up spicing the food.

I have a steamer too, I don't know how much I paid for it, I bought it years ago. I think I need to upgrade it actually. We just use it for veggies, and I used it for fruit when for baby food when my kids were little. Better then boiling. We also have a steamer pot for the stove that works well too.
