I work each muscle group twice a week and do cardio throughout the week. I'm wondering how often *should* I be doing cardio?

    Hi There!!
I'm pretty sure that if you're trying to lose weight you should do alot of cardio vs lifting weights. My boyfriend, (who trains me) tell me that I should do at least an hour per day. I think that's excessive, so I would suggest at least 4-5 times per week.
  • You should do cardio 3 to 4 days a week.

I was wondering if there was a *specific* thing I should do or not!

    Thanks for your input! =)

If your doing intense cardio with a really elevated heart rate you stop burning fat and start burning muscle after about 30 mins. You dont really see any distance runners that have alot of muscle. If you can do 30 mins of intense cardio & walk or do some other low intensity activity you can continue to burn fat instead of muscle. I'm not talking body builder muscle but for fitness. If you lose muscle your metabolism will suffer.

Also if you do High Intensity Interval Training (going 110% for a 1:30 and doing 60% for 1:30) back & forth. on a treadmill or sprints for say 20-30 minutes it is a GOOD way to burn fat. It can really expand your lungs too. That being said going slower for distance is how you gain endurance so I do this once a week & do HIIT the other days.

You can do interval training on a bike or other machine running was just the example.
