Sugar - not a lot, especially if you mean refined sugar.
Carbs - most nutritionists I've talked with have suggested about 40% of your calories come from carbs. These should mostly be whole grains, fruits, and veggies (some of the carbs will be simple sugars, but if they're coming from fruits and veggies, it's fine)0 -
A person does not need any sugar a day.0

None. Sugar is not a nutrient, it's actually a toxin. Do not confuse sugar with carbs though, I get tired of seeing people defend sugar. And yes that includes fruit sugar though with all the fiber and vitamins in whole fruits and veggies they neutralize the toxicity of the sugar itself. Hence why fruit is good but juice is really bad. Sugar, refined sugar is a drug and a toxin.0

It depends - if you're talking about sugar in the form most people think of it as - it's not essential for human survival. Glucose is essential as a fuel for our bodies, but our bodies make glucose out of the other foods we eat. We don't have to eat traditional simple sugars. But if you avoid all foods that have natural sugars in them - veggies, fruits, milk, etc., you will likely be lacking in vitamins/minerals/micronutrients.
I try to stick to healthy foods with no added sugars, and if the foods have high natural sugars I keep them to a reasonable level. So - I eat more veggies (which have a very low sugar content, usually) than milk or fruit.0 -
I try to never eat more than 5 grams of sugar at each meal, and never go over 15 grams for the day0

Personally, I need a lot :laugh:0

None other than what naturally occurs in food.0

I really wanted to attempt the no more than 15g a day, but so far am finding it very difficult. Today, for example, I had a banana. I think it counted for like 10 g. And then I had a few mini tomatoes on my salad, another 2! I get that refined sugars are not good for you at all, but I can't get around not eating fruits. I feel I would me missing out on important nutrients (like accountantboi mentioned) if I limited myself that much. So, my sugar reduction is a work in progress, until I find more veggies that are as convenient as the good old packaged by nature banana and apple. I like food you don't have to work at a whole lot. Even carrots take a little bit of TLC. (I like to peel them first)0

As mentioned in my post, the fiber in them help your body properly process them, so don't stress eating a couple fruit a day.0

like someone else said.. around 15g
this cuts out a lot of things.. i have noticed how much sugar is in somethings where i wouldnt think there would be any sugar.
i used to not care about but the calories.. but now i have become better about sugar and carb in take. It has allowed me to lose weight and inches especially from my stomach. Belly fat is from the sugar that people intake. even other people have noticed the difference in my stomach.
i definitely reccommend watching your sugar it really helps with weight loss and over all healthy eating.
good luck!0
