Sugar intake too high

I've been going over my sugar intake basically everyday, mostly from eating fruit. I never realised how much sugar was in fruit. I am worried that all my sugar intake from fruit can potentially turn into fat. I was reading that anything over your amount can turn into fat (protein, sugar, etc). Right now I am -47 sugars... Whenever I feel hungry/want to snack I grab fruit... any suggestions?? Or opinions on this matter?

    Bump..

And I am not 100% but I don't think protein is going to turn into fat all that much. Protein is good, even more so if you want to tone up really good... People tell me to try and go over on my protein.
  • this topic has gotten a ton of discussion on here. i am not a "nutritional expert". i do believe if you are trying to lose weight you want to watch your sugars (even natural fruit sugars) very carefully. mfp sets the level very low for a reason. protein on the other hand my understanding it is okay to go over on as it is with fiber. many will tell you that because of fairly complex metabolic/digestive differences there is a difference between naturally occurring fruit sugars and added sugars but others will tell you there is no difference. i think it also depends on how close you are to goal and how fast you are trying to lose. when i was deep in my program i barely ate fruit at all and got my vitamin c and fiber elsewhere. now that i am basically on maintenance i eat two servings of fruit a day most days.

i have had some take me to task for recommending low fruit intake on here even if it is only temporary. many feel counting calories is the only thing that matters and a calorie from sugar is no different than a calorie from anything else. i do not know enough to state either postion to be "correct" i just know that carefully watching sugars as a part of my program seemed to work for me.

Don't panic! Everyone has some challenge or another. As someone who likes to eat fruit, your sugar is going to add up faster than someone who reaches for something else. There is actually quite a lot of sugar in some fruit. Have you considered some alternatives for some of your snacks? How about more of the lower sugar fruits (berries for the most part have less sugar than peaches and bananas for example) or supplementing your diet with some healthy veggies or popcorn? What about your other daily nutrition facts? Are you constantly low on protein and over your sugar? Try a handful of nuts. Sugar happens to be my trouble area too:)
