I broke my leg (tib/fib) back 1.5 years ago. I had a rod and screws installed along my tibia for repair. I have never been a "runner" but I have definintely ran before. i am experiencing "pain" in the area-- where i would say the screws are located-- when i run. i can't barely go more than a block or two without it just being too much.

I am considering having the rod and screws removed if my orthopedic says it's ok to do so.

Has anyone else ever had this problem? I wonder if maybe my muscles are just not in shape and that's why i am hurting !

I had back surgery 10 months ago. I had screws and brackets installed, as well. There is no way I could start running without being in pain.

I broke my patella about 5 years ago. They put a screw in (from my heal) and I have never regain full range of motion in my foot. Also, if I rest my heal on something in a certain way I get some major nerve pinching going on. Not sure if that's what you are experiencing or not. I favor mine in the mornings or if I have been stationary for a while (setting at desk), but it usually gets worked out within 20 minutes or so and I'm back to normal.

Some breaks never mend 100%. :-(

I had what sounds like a similar surgery (many years ago now!) but they removed all the hardware a year and change later because it was causing me problems like that. There's no reason why they shouldn't take it out - and the surgery to remove it was a lot easier than the one to put it in! I was back to work (galloping horses, etc.) in a week.

I'm glad they took all the hardware out, but my ankle has been anything be trouble-free since. Hope yours wasn't messed up as badly as mine!

Keep at the exercises prescribed to strengthen the area. It was 2-3 years after my back surgery before I was feeling like me again. At four years out, my knees are my problem when I workout, back is fine I've only lost flexibility. I can't to back bends or walkovers anymore. Truth be told I hadn't done those since college anyway. Not much use for them LOL!
