So I consumed 231g of protein today! I'm thinking maybe it was a bit much...
How much is too much protein? Is there such a thing?

Feel free to add me as a friend and view my food diary. Thanks!

I'm a high-protein, slow-carb girl myself, but I've never been able to get my protein that high! That's a hell of a lot of protein, but as long as it's lean proteins I think you're OK.

I wonder that myself often. Did you adjust your percents on carbs, protein and fat or just go with mfp's recommended ones. The recommended one's seem low on protein. I read somewhere that 40% protein, 30% fat, 30% carbs was a good goal. I will be curious to see what other's have to say.

If you want to gain muscle your good. My old trainer told me that to loose weight take in half your body weight in protein (grams) and if you want to build muscle to make sure you have at least your whole body weight in protein a day. Does that make any sense? So as long as your eating good lean mean and natural protein your good!

I think for weight loss .8 g. of protein for every pound of lean body mass is recommended. That's an average so you're going to have higher days and lower days. So I guess it really depends on your current weight to say whether or not it's "OK" or not.

I've read a couple of different articles now on "Too much protein" and from what I've gotten so far...I should probably stick to .8 per lb of body weight (maybe more since I'm strength training), and add in some complex carbs. Some were even saying that excess protein can be stored as fat! Hmm...

Here'a a link to one of the sites:
    http://www.livestrong.com/article/269561-is-there-such-a-thing-as-too-much-protein-in-the-diet/

Recommendations (According to the link above)
The average person only needs about 0.8g/kg of body weight to replace lost protein in the body, but according to experts at Columbia University, protein intake can be as much as 1.5 to 2g/kg of body weight for elite athletes or bodybuilders. For a 180 lb. person this would be 122 to 164g of protein. Most people probably need slightly less than this. It is also important to consume plenty of energy-rich carbohydrates to prevent the breakdown of protein for energy instead.

i feel like i go over my protein on MFP every single day - i was wondering the same thing. i have tuna with lunch and chicken with dinner and i'm already over so any healthy snacks just add to it. someone told me the excess protein turns to fat so i'm kind of freaked out but i'm working out at least an hour everyday?
