My fiancee once told me I will always be wide in the hips because of having kids... Well is it caused by carrying the babies.. or is it by actually giving birth?
Well I didn't have them naturally.. My first one I tried (pushed for 3 hrs) but he wouldn't come down.. so had a c section
I had 3 c sections..

I think your hips widen because that's what your body does when it comes of age to bear children, whether you do or don't. It's just one of those things that the female body does. It's not a bad thing, btw.0

Ok thanks0 -
I still have wide hips but they are shrinking pretty quickly. I think that the actual bones don't go back to where they were before giving birth but you can still shrink the size of them.... no worries girl just keep doing great!0

I too have a nice set of hips on me and it's the ONLY part of my body that I hate. I sure hope they go away, but I know I will always have larger hips.
I also had 2 c-sections. The way I understand it is when you become pregnant the bones in your pelvis actually spread apart to accommodate the baby. Whether they go back to normal or not, who knows!0 -
Thanks all what are good exercises for shrinking my hips?0

Your hips widen during pregnancy to allow the birth canal to open up. It isn't just because of giving birth. They will not go back. However, you can shrink the fat that you have on your hips and butt.0

That has been my problem ever since and I'm still single with no child yet. I have naturally wide hips and butt a bit big too and I feel I look like having 5 kids even if I have none. Anyway you can trim it down by doing some cardio exercises that involves hip and leg movement. Running, walking, biking, etc. will do. As for me, I'm doing kick boxing, dancing like rumba, samba and other cardio workouts and my hips somewhat got smaller.0

The only way to shrink the fat on your hips is to shrink all the fat on your body (long answer for -- there are none).
You can't target the fat reduction. So you just get on the weight-loss bandwagon. And bide your time. Plod, plod, plod.0 -
Your hips do widen during pregnancy, but there's a hormone called relaxin that allows it to happen (it also sometimes makes your feet bigger, because the bones relax), and that hormone stays in your body for a few weeks after birth so that your joints can resume their previous positions, or at the very least, close to it.
My hips actually went back to their previous size within two weeks of giving birth (and I gave birth naturally), but I didn't do anything special; I was only 15 lbs heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight at that point (I gained about 35lbs total), and I read that's actually a factor in how quickly your body bounces back initially. If you gained a lot of weight, and you held on to most of it for the first 8 weeks after birth, it would be harder for your joints to adjust back, because they'll adjust to the higher weight. It's also harder for them to go back after multiple children, and if you're older when you had kids. Those are all factors that play into it, so if any of those apply, it'll be harder for your body to bounce back.
So more than likely, if your hips are wider because of pregnancy and it's been a while since you gave birth, then no, they won't go back. You can work off the fat that sits on them through cardio, but the actual bones won't change.0 -
Keep in mind, wide hips isn't necessarily a bad thing. It will actually allow you to be a bit curvier which is an attractive trait in many woman. Unfortunately, this is also a genic trait. Some woman are naturally curvier than others. Also, you can't really target an area in your body. In reality, for woman, hips buns and thighs are generally where you store your body fat. The only way to get rid of it is to lose body fat... not weight. The best thing to do is weight training and some HIIT training. This will help build a good muscle base while burning a lot of calories. Keep in mind, muscle burns fat. If you want to burn the fat, then you need to work the muscles. I woudl look to do a program more designed for a woman where more of the muscle building is lower body. In fact, lower body has the larger muscles in your body. Large muscles burn more fat than smaller muscles. This does mean you have to feed your muscles adequately as well.
So do you have a fitness program you do or just diet? If it's hard for you to workout a lot (being a mother and all) I would highly suggest looking at a program like "slim in six", chalean extreme, turbo fire or some of julian micheals programs or if you want to really go extreme then go with p90x. All these programs are at home workouts and they work. I have had success with chalean extreme and p90x and my friends have done julian micheals with success.0
