Well, sugar doesn't make you fat. Especially if you leave it in the container it came in. The thing is your body (everyone's body) is lazy and will burn the easy fuel first. Which means you have to wait till it's done burning sugar before it will go for the fat you're trying to lose.0

Nothing makes you fat - except for excess.0

I haven't read it yet, but will in a few minutes. I do agree, however. Of course, if a person over does the sugar, it's going to add a lot of empty calories, but in moderation I don't see where it's such a bad food. There is the fat issue, though. Many sweet foods also contain a lot of fat and or starch, and there is the real problem. Then, there's the high fructose corn syrup that often accompanies the sugar or completely replaces it, and that I see as a problem, too.0

No single food or macronutrient will make you fat until you eat more calories than your body burns. This is a physical law of nature.0 -

Agreed. You can lose weight eating rubbish (is it the Twinkie diet I'm thinking of?) and you can put on weight eating chicken breasts and yoghurt if you put your mind to it.
My opinion is that if you want to lose weight it's about moderation. Sugar itself isn't the devil, any more than fat is (we would have been having this debate about fat 15 years ago)
I know lots of people don't agree with me about moderation, but that's OK, I can live with that!0 -
This is an interesting thing for me to read... becuase although i can see both side's of the coin.
I dont eat any sugar other than what is found naturally in fruit and vegetables.
I very very rarely eat something that comes in a package ... I pretty much live a Raw food lifestyle.
Just thought it was something interesting to share and see peoples thoughts0 -
In vs Out is more important than what. Kenyan runners eat a ton of Sugar and they aren't getting fat because they burn that stuff off. There were some surprises in the dietary data, however. For example, just behind ugali in second place for calorie-provisioning was plain sugar, which provided about one out of every five calories (20 percent) consumed by the Kenyans over the course of the day.
That's right, the vitamin-free, mineral-free, "bad," "simple" carb from which Americans are fleeing was consumed in rather prodigious amounts, about 133.5 grams (534 calories) per day. Similar levels of sugar consumption are sometimes blamed for the rising tide of obesity in the U.S., particularly among young people, but in fact sugar intake provides some key advantages for athletes involved in intense training on a daily basis: After all, the stuff re-stocks muscle-glycogen stores very quickly and effectively.

Sugar is so bad. cloges the arderies and goes to your stomach. soda is really just liquid candy if you think about it with all the sugar it has. of course, sugar in moderation is good.
Sugar makes you fat. its not just oils and fats.

Do they even put sugar in soda these days? It's carbonated water, HFCS or aspartame (or other artificial sweeteners) and chemicals.0
