Just a quick question for all you great people out there who have lost a significant amount of weight.....How is your skin afterwards? I have about 100 lbs to lose, and the thought of loose skin hasn't left my mind. I'm so worried I'll lose the weight and still be disappointed. I am 21, and my boyfrend insists that the skin will go back. Let me know : ) THANKS!!

I am not sure about weight loss, but I was very pregnant at 23 (gained 50 pounds with her) and my stomach was HUUUUGE. It went back nicely...young skin is elastic.
I hope you get some answers! However, I don't think you have to worry much especially if you lose weight slowly.0 -
IT WILL GO BACK.........It takes a little longer than actually losing the weight. Water is your friend. Also there is a thing you can get that they give to women after a c-section, my doctor gave me one. it is suppose to aid with your skin and stomach going back. But I worn wond while I was losing weight to help. It is called a belly band you can buy them, I have seen them online. Actually there is a woman who indorses a specific brand --> Brooke Burke, she is a celebrity. They do help........
But it will go back0 -
Youth is definitely on your side here! To reduce impact do not lose weight too fast. 1 pound a week is the safest target, 2 can be pushing it, any more can lead to the lose skin you ware trying to avoid. I know it can seem demoralizing to feel like there are limits but remember it's an investment in the rest of your life!
Best wishes to your goal!0 -
Yeah, it is definitely a concern. I am 27 (male) and went from 310 to 220 (30 left to go). My skin is lose, but not terrible, and I know once I reach goal it will eventually tighten up. Everything I have read says age is a major factor, and you being only 21 really should not have a problem. Yes, the skin will be lose when first lost, but it will tighten up. I've read that it can take up to two years.
Just make sure to mix in a little exercise.0 -
Lose the weight slowly and you shouldn't have any problems. Those who end up with enough loose skin to need surgery are the ones who get a lap band or do something else to lose weight very quickly. Keep to a slow and steady weight loss, keep working out as you go and you'll be nice and tight by the time you get to the end of your weight loss journey.
One thing to keep in mind, as we age, our skin loses elasticity, so losing the weight while you are younger is definitely the way to go!0 -
Slow and steady on your weight loss and you should not have any problem, your age is a great factor in your skin recovery. Make sure water is your best friend, moisturize your skin daily and mulitple times if you can. Start if you haven't cardio and strength training to help tone up your muscles it helps there too..Healthy eating to you and see you on the down side.......0

I think you will be fine as long as you tone and strengthen during the whole process. And it's another reason to take if off slowly....gives the skin time to adjust. I am double your age (unfortunately) and have been heavy for lots of years and I will say the strength training, etc is actually helping. I will never have "21 yr old" skin again, but i'm pretty pleased with how it's adjusted!0

You have youth on your side so your loose skin if any should be very minimum. I suggest strength training heavy to aid with the tightening on the skin. Make sure you drink plenty of water and keep your skin moisturized.0

Having had my highest weight lost at 134lbs I must say that skin is a factor. I lost it in about 3 years and I have done every workout you can think of P90X , Insanity, Zumba, Pilates, Boot Camp, Heavy Weights, Mountain Climbing, Bike Riding...on and on and on... what is most important is your health....the skin is tighter in some areas and not so in others. Your youth is a definate plus, people losing less than 100lbs may not really understand how drasticly 100 plus loss effects the body....Im not saying this to discourage you in anyway....the weight loss benefits by far out way any skin issues! There are treatments and creams and bands you can try along the weight loss journey and then theres always sugery....But the most important thing is to live the best life possible always!

It is a beautiful thing to be young. So embrace it and keep doing weight training exercises and you will be fine. I see you are almost at goal. So if you don't see it now, you will be fine. :flowerforyou:0
