all this time I have never subtracted my rmr from what my HRM says I burned during exercise. So have I been overestimating my burns?

Technically yes. My BMR is about 70 calories per hour so if I were to exercise for 30 minutes I'd have to subtract 35 calories. I don't think it is that big of a deal.0
