Issue: I had a longer period than usual...about 10 days and while that was happening, I succumbed to cravings and wasn't exercising consistently. When I weighed myself Monday I had gained 3 lbs back...but I know I wasn't going over my calories THAT much. Is it possible that's all water weight? When I weighed today, it had gone down a pound...but that's still a 2 lb gain. Any idea what's going on? And don't tell me to open my diary...As I said, I didn't go over my calories that much if I did.

Was there a lot of sodium in your intake?

Yes that is a possibility. I gain 2-3 pound during that time.

Sometimes what i noticed is that when you're on your period it makes you a little heavier than usual. remember your body can flux in weight about 5 pounds either way. Also if you have completely changed your eating and lifestyle habits this WILL affect your cycles. Although, if this continues to happen its best to see your doctor just to be safe =D

Hi! That happens to me all the time.

If you didn't go over your calorie goal that much then its probably just water. Especially if you're just coming off your period. I'd try drink more water for the next few days, and try to avoid salty foods and see what happens.

Also, if you drink soda, even diet soda it has a lot of sodium in it that can make you retain water. So, for the next few days I'd drink plenty of water.

If it doesn't go away by Saturday- Sunday then I'd start going over maybe a different mean plan for that week.

    Hope I helped!

  • hello, well i know that when i exercise i tend to gain weight instead of losing, i lose inches. Could this be it ? are you exercising?
It could all be the you just got over your period or its water retention. i hate it when this happens. my suggestion is if you havent done it is to keep a log of it so next month you'll know just incase it happens again you know what it is. Hopeyou understand what im saying and it helps =)

That's good to know. My doctor is well aware of my cycles being erratic as it is. They always have been. So I'm not surprised that my cycle was so long, I just never realized how my weight was effected since I'm just now starting to be concious about what I'm eating and exercising.

I understand! I actually don't measure myself. I had a bad experience with being measured by a personal trainer before and It just makes me feel like a piece of meat. So I just weigh myself. I am concious about noticing other differences though. So even if the scale isn't budging, I am paying attention to how my clothes fit and how other parts of my body are looking.

There was probably more sodium than usual because I always crave salty, greasy foods. So I'm sure with the extra sodium, all my water just latched itself. Dumb! :)

You did! Thank you! I've really cut back on my sodas. I actually quit drinking them for 3 years and my now, fiance drinks soda all the time, so naturally when we got together, I did too. If I feel the need to have one, I'll have a Coke Zero. I know it has Aspartame and other artificial sweetners in it, but it has no sodium, cals, etc. so it gives me what I want without effecting those numbers.
