Shopping List?

I might be a bit crazy, but I've gone back for a lot of pages and can't find a post on this...if there is one, please feel free to point it out :smile:

My husband and I are going on our monthly grocery shop next week and I was hoping to get some advice on things in particular i should pick up to help with my weight loss? I already know the basics like fruits, and veggies. But In the way of things like protein, fiber, nuts, things like that, is there anything I should definitely get? And alternatively, things that are misleading on the shelves, or anything I should avoid altogether?

Any helpful suggestions would be awesome! Thanks everyone so much! :bigsmile:

    Eggs, oatmeal, almonds, couscous, chicken, ground turkey, ground beef, puffed millet & kamut (whole grain cereals), almond milk, coconut milk, bottled water, chicken broth or Herbox sodium free boulion, sugar free ice cream pops, fresh blueberries (that I put in a zip lock and freeze), dark green and red veggies and fruits, mozzarella, salsa (look in the fresh produce section for some good ones), avacodos, cantaloupe, plain yogurt, ground flaxseed (you can add to anything like cereal, yogurt, eggs, ground meats), peanut butter, tuna fish, salmon, seltzer (lemon lime is my favorite & is sodium free too).

    Stay away from packaged, processed foods & canned goods - not safe to shop down the aisles.

    I mix ground turkey and ground beef and make my own burgers and wrap them in waxed paper, foil and put them in a zip lock bag in the freezer. My sister in law just gave me her George Foreman grill and I did an experiment. I cooked my burgers and there was a penny size drip of fat in the drip pan. I cooked a processed turkey burger (Jenny-O) and a Bubba burger and I had to dump the drip pan as it was filled to the rim.

    I try to eat Ezekiel 4:9 sprouted organic bread or Spelt bread purchased in the freezer section in a health food store by my house. I try to limit my breads but it can be so hard.

    I am not an expert and losing weight has been a slow process for me - anxious to see what other people will share with you.

    My #1 tip I keep in mind when grocery shopping is to stay away from the "100 calorie snack pack" foods. These foods are highly processed and simply not good for you. Instead, look for natural almonds, not honey roasted or salted almonds.

    Here are my main staples on my grocery list:

    Multi-grain or whole wheat cereals: Cheerios, Special K, Total Raisin Brain
    Spinach
    Couscous
    Dash seasonings Helps with the sodium intake
    Hummus
    Whole grain pasta
    Veggies fixin's to make my on past sauce
    Greek yogurt
    Light popcorn
    Chicken breasts or thighs
    Eggs
    Spicy Brown Mustard
    Low sodium deli meats from the ACTUAL deli. Normal lunchmeats are highly over-processed. Golden Roasted Butterball turkey is best.

    One of the best investments I made towards my WLJ is purchasing a Britta pitcher. Now, I always have clean. cold drinking water and it cuts back on cost since you wont need to buy bottled water all the time.

    Gotta a sweet tooth? Another great tip I use is to get popsicle molds and fill them with 100% fruit juice. It's low cal and satisfies my sweet cravings.

    I always make my grocery list from a planned food menu. I like to plan at least a week's worth of meals ahead of time. When I go to the store, I only buy what I need for those meals. This saves time and money, as well.

    The above lists are great. I can't really add anything to them...but basically just remind you to buy "fresh" stuff over "processed." Stay around the perimeter of the store cause that's where you will find the fresh stuff.
