Goals

**I know I am on more then normal....but struggling here.
Is it better to have "mini-goals" rather then going for a "BIG goal"?
Would I be better off setting my MFP for a small goal, to keep it manageable and less overwhelming?
Is seeing the amount loss as a whole, more motivation?
Do you change your goals or do you just keep a mental goal tally?

I have a big goal (to get to 150) and I have small goals, like amounts I'd like to lose monthly. If flooking at the whole picture is daunting, changing to smaller goals might be helpful. I keep track of my mini goals in my profile. I fifnd it hard to remember all the numbers and slight changes.
ps- we are looking to lose exactly the same amount :flowerforyou: woot woot, 59! :laugh:0 -
You are doing awesome!
Sometimes, I wonder if mentally I am just sabatoging myself cause I see that BIG number and I am like, "Crap....I can barely get 5lbs off and keep it off." Does that make sense?
I was just wondering on others opinions, what's worked for them.
I need to figure out my groove.

I have my big goal set and don't change it, but I do set small goals to help me reach that over all goal.
You should set some weekly goals. Like stay in your calories all week and exercise 3 times. Or eat 3 peices of fresh fruit everyday or something. I try not to focus so much on the weight as the other changes I can make. If you meet those goals the weight will come off.0 -
Right now I'm trying not to think too much about weight and the scale. I have set goals for myself to stay pretty close to my calorie limit (including logging every bite) and to exercise six days a week.
Every day I do these things, I put a sticker on my calendar for each goal I've met. When I've put 60 stickers on my calendar, I am going to get something I want ... this time a Zumba DVD set I think. Another month I might go out and get a mani/pedi, or a book I want, or a heart rate monitor, or a new outfit ... or some other nonfood reward. I'm almost there on getting the DVDs!
I get discouraged when I let myself see how far I have to go. I'm expecting it will take at least a year to get there. Between now and then, I need little motivators to keep me going ... I can only do this one day at a time.
Maybe it would help you to just focus on each day doing what you need to do and let the weight eventually take care of itself ... which it *will* do if you eat right and exercise!0 -
I had to set smaller goals to get to the bigger one.
I just had the nerve to put in my actual goal weight of 125. When I started I just could not wrap my mind around 50 pounds to lose!
I changed my ticker a few times.
Do what works for you. You can set up your ticker for 10 lbs at a time. Then when you feel comfortable, set it up with all the pounds so you can see all you have accomplished.
You can do this...think about it, you have lost 10% of what you want to lose. You didnt gain weight, as you could have.0 -
My very BIGGEST goal?????
Never seeing an upward trend on my scale or tape measure again.
Yes I'd like to not be in the obese range, yes I want to fit into smaller clothes.....but I seem to do better with letting my body take it's own time and not becoming frustrated with unmet goals. So, I'll keep goals in mind but will take them as they come. That's what works for me.
My favorite quote.....
Discipline is REMEMBERING what you REALLY want.

I have a big goal, but I've sectioned it into 10 pound increments. I have a "prize" I give myself for each 10 pounds. Not really big things, but something I probably wouldn't have bought for myself.0

this sounds good maybe i should try this0 -
I am gonna go with a smaller goal and see if this visual actually helps keep me focused more then the big goal.
It's like eating an elephant, one bite at a time.
The fun thing...my eating and exercise habits weren't so bad....my UNDER EATING habits....now those were killer. So, I will see how this goes for a few weeks.
Thanks for all the opinions and ideas.
