I've always gone by the method of weighing myself maybe once a fortnight but the majority of the time seeing how my clothes fit on me and how I look in the mirror to access whether i'm loosing weight. When I started going to the gym I actually put on weight due to muscle but was definately getting smaller. What do you think?

It's always been better for me to go by how my clothes are fitting me and how I look in the mirror opposed to the scale. I use the scale because it is one factor I use to determine my % body fat and lean body mass in pounds, but I really just judge my success by the clothes. That's why I haven't even changed that ticker in months, lol.

Throw the scale out. You're not a piece of meat or a truck load of trash. I don't know why they ever let humans start using scales in the first place.

Take your measurements, or go by how your clothes fit. Health and fitness is so much more than a number.

I do agree with you SpaceMarkus. For instance as much as I hate admitting this when I first started running I could HARDLY finish a 1.5 mile run and it was taking me upwards of 17:30 mins to do it. Now I am running it in 14:44 and still continuing to lose time every time I run it for time. Also I am now running 2.5 miles and attempting to run a 5k soon. I may not have lost much weight but my fitness is deffinatly increased!

I think it depends? When I started, that's how I felt. But clothing sizes go much, much more slowly than the scale. And at my size, I'm unlikely to go up because of a some trips to the gym added muscle. Now I do weigh in once a week and I find it helps me track my progress. I do have to watch out for getting into that headspace where all that matters is that number, but with a lot of help from friends and family I think I keep myself pretty grounded in reality. At the end of the day it does matter less the actual pounds I weigh, but the sense of achievement I get from seeing those changes helps to keep me motivated.

I think going by weight is dangerous. For me at least. I get excited when I lose and then I just want to keep losing. I don't weigh myself anymore.

I do both plus how I feel. Clothes, depending on how loose you wear them might not let you know until you have gained/lost 5lbs or more. I weigh daily but for the last two days I have gone up 2 tenths both days. However, my pants fit better(yay weightlifting) and I feel better "in my skin" so the gain doesn't worry me at all.

When I maintain my weight, I use my clothing and it work great for me (until I get pregnant.....again) but when I am losing, I use my mesuring tape first and my scale second

For me its hard to find a good balance I battle with it all the time. A couple years ago I weighed 128lbs but I wore a sz 6 and I now weigh 130lbs but I wear a sz 2. But I would rather weigh in my 120s but I know I am an okay size and that I am a lot healthier. I am trying to stay away from the scale for this reason.

I have a trainer at my gym who weighs almost as much as me (175-180ish) and she's a whole lot smaller than me. She looks pretty darn fantastic so I think it's about finding a balance between being fit and toned and coming to terms wth the scale. I'm trying to ignore the allure of the scale (she sings a very enticing siren song) because I know I'm not losing a huge amount of weight but I'm losing inches.
