Why does weight loss go in waves?

Hello,
I have currently lost 61lbs in 6 months but I've noticed that weight loss goes in waves. So one week i will lose 4lbs and the next nothing despite eatings and exercising the same.
Does anyone else find this and is there a reason for it?
Many thanks
Dave.

It happens to me too, here is an article by the famous fitness expert, Lyle McDonald, that explains it:

I always found weight to be dependant on to many factors; are your muscles retaining water to heal, did I gain more muscle this week.....whatever. However, I found that measurements were a great way to always show me what was going on.
Great job!0
