Plateau

I think I have hit a wall. I am 5'-10" and 5 weeks ago, weighed 198. I am now around 189 and have been for 2 weeks. I excercise 6 days a week and average 1000 calories burned per workout. Fitnesspal.com says I should eat 1230 calories a day to lose 2 lbs a week. If I add the calories burned to the recommended caloric intake, I am supposed to eat 2230 calories. In reality, I am eating in the range of 1,650 caloires. This approached worked well for 3 weeks, but now it has fizzled. My wife says I am not eating enough or that I am at my ideal weight. Any Advice out there?

Eat more! You have to eat back your exercise calories or atleast HALF of them.0

How many carbs do you usually consume?? That was my downfall! I had to reduce my carbs intake before I could break my plateau!!0

You might try zig zagging your calories to keep your body guessing on the amount of calories coming in. Your body has probably made adjustments and is functioning on your current calories. If you are at 1650 calories now, I would eat 1600 for 3 days, then eat at 1900-2000 for 1 day and then repeat the 3 low days. Keep doing this and you will break through your plateau. I know when I do it, I actually lose weight after my high day!0

I happen to think that we (or at least me) should not be eating back the excersise calories. I went to a fat Dr. in January and he told me to eat 1000 to 1200 calories a day and MFP says I should be eating 1560 and then any from exercise also. Since I eat more like what MFP says, my weight loss has decreased. I need to get back to what my Dr. said instead0

Perhaps you are at your ideal weight. I am the same height, but a female, and I am trying to get down to 175 lbs. which is a normal weight for me. I would expect you are very, very close to the normal weight for a man at that height. What you may want to do is take a few days off from working out and relax and eat what is recommended. You could be overworking your body.0

You should not let your net calories fall under 1200 for too long because your body will start storing as fat instead of burning. Im sorry but Im with your wife on this one. lol You are doing great, dont get discouraged. You will snap out of this plateau and continue on your way!!! Whenever I hit a plateau I rollercoaster my calories. Sometimes I eat to lose 1.5 and other times I eat to lose 2. It has helped me so much! Good luck! :happy:0

I second (or is that third) the Zig/Zag calories and making sure you are eating enough approach.
I did want to mention though that I had a plateau described to me by a trainer a while ago as more then 4 weeks with no lbs OR inches lost. I think we all want results so quickly that its hard to focus on your body adjusting to weight loss.
So check your inches lost/clothes getting bigger stuff too!0
