Body Fat Digital Scale

I decided I need a new scale (my current one isn't digital and I'm constantly re-adjusting to zero so it doesn't give consistent weights).

Is it worth it to get a Digital Scale that also calculates Body Fat or should I just stick with a regular digital scale? Any recommendations?

They are a nice idea if you can afford it, but not to be taken 100% seriously. Where they are useful is to see at a glance whether your body composition is changing - important if you are doing exercise as you may see your weight staying the same or increasing when in fact you are losing fat mass and gaining muscle mass.

I really like my Salter body fat scale, I like that I can not only monitor how much I loose but I have a measure of how much of that is body fat, its a great motivator.

I was told that these scale are far from accurate when it comes to body fat. They calculate only the fat percentage in the lower part of your body. So if you're pear shaped like I am, the number on the scale will be higher than it should. So maybe it's not worth the extra cost...

We just picked up a Weight Watchers digital scale for 10.00 at an outlet store. It works great! Hubs uses the body mass, etc features. I only use the weight. It is very accuate! :)

Yes. Agree with it not being absolutely accurate and assuming a lot about your body composition by the composition of your lower half, but I base all my reasoning on the change since last time I weighed on the same scales positioned in the same place at the same time of day. It is unlikely that anyones scales will be absolutely accurate as no one has an atomic reference weight in their cupboards that they calibrate their scales too before using them, but if you put them in the same place each time you weigh and only concern yourself with the change since last time, you will not go far wrong.

My Wii Fit downstairs measures me different to my scales upstairs by several pounds so when I track my weight in MFP, I always put in the weight as Wii Fit reports.

Thanks Everyone! I think I will upgrade and just be aware that it's probably off by 5% but consistently off by the same amount so I can track how it's changing.
