Make yourself a "mock"tail. Do you crave the alcohol or just the drink itself? If you're craving alcohol then you could have a problem. Haha!!0

It is your call, your choice, your life, no two ways about it alcohol slows my weight loss and I make stupid choices re food when I am drinking.... But I enjoy a drink so it u's my call, my choice, my life .... Lose consistently or erratically.... I choose erratically! Good luck!0

That depends. What do you plan to drink? How much? Will you really stop at that or does that just sound like the right number?
Treats are great as long they don't undo all the hard work that you've done.0 -
Lol thanks 4 that, I just fancied a cider but I think it's because I know they were in my kitchen, if they went in the house I wouldn't have it lol x0

Have the drink(s)! I intend to trade at least part of my dinner calories for vodka tonight, and, there isnt' a single thing anyone can say to make me feel guilty about it! I am a grown-*kitten* woman.0

HAHAH agreed0 -
enjoy the drink. If you've allowed for it in your calories and you want it, have it. I'm allowing myself two glasses of red tonight after a 6oz steak dinner, and I feel so spoilt!!! yum yum!!!!
don't drink creamy cocktails, keep to slim line and try red wine. Keep to a couple and you'll be fine!
Enjoy!0 -
I say do it! What is work without rewards?
Just remember to count the calories, and don't be surprised if you retain several pounds of water in the morning after drinking (I do after just 2 drinks).0 -
Lol just fancied a drink been unwell I just craved a cider lol like your comment x0

Some people just like the taste. I like coffee after dinner sometimes, but obviously don't want the caffeine that late so yes, I will drink a cup of decaf. As far as the booze goes, I'm not saying I drink alcohol free drinks, but some people do. Not everyone drinks to get drunk believe it or not.0 -

I agree!!!!:huh:0 -
If you want to indulge, go for straight vodka or rum. Mixing those in with water and a flavor packet or those MIO things works surprisingly well. When I had drink it was just a cup of water, sweet tea flavor, and strawberry rum...tasted great and only as many calories as the alcohol(67 )0

In my high school someone came up with the saying, "O'douls. For people who want to get fat not drunk."
Otherwise, it's really not about depriving yourself or what you can or can't consume (I'm not addressing whether or not the alcohol is a problem other than with the calories. ) Think big picture. Have some drinks. But maybe have broccoli and chicken for lunch instead of pizza, or do a little more exercise early in the day, etc.; Also, I use the mobile app that gives me where I am for the week. I feel it's good to stay under for the week, it sort of averages out.
Also, vodka and soda (not tonic) is a good low calorie drink. Believe it or not beer isn't so bad either. Sweet drinks like margaritas and frozen/girlie things etc. are mind-bogglingly stuffed with calories. It's like a steak dinner. Ick.0 -

That's what I was thinking too ......I think if you want to have drink, why not? Are you not going to drink the rest of your life because you might gain some calories? I say everything in moderation0 -
Right on!0

I'm pretty sure the point they were making is if it's the drink they're craving, not the alcohol; to make the cocktail sans alcohol. A "virgin" drink.....0 -

Oh yeah, also, I binge on food when drinking as well. It's not even the alcohol it's the fact that my judgement is wack from it re food. Keep lo calorie snacks at home so you don't do that and really watch it with eating while/after drinking.0

I will be the first to admit that I drink irresponsibly on this journey. I have a had a few drunken nights but there are two reasons I'm ok with it:
A. I've quit beer and moved on to vodka/soda.
B. Between the little extra room I leave in my calories and the 6+ hours of standing and dancing I do on these drunken nights. I'm sure I burn more than I drink anyways.0 -
I dont reward myself with food or drinks, I don't say that I deserve any kind of food or drink I don't completely rule them out anyway, everything in moderation.
If you want a reward buy some new clothes, or go get a pedicure.0 -
Hi,
I wanted to tell you that I came to MFP in March (110 days today). I wanted to lose 20 pounds, (in spite of menopause) eat well, and still enjoy a cocktail every night if I wanted to. Some said - nope, not gonna work! Alcohol is all bad, will kill your efforts, etc. Well, I don't believe in unrealistic sacrificises, and so I found a way to make it all work.
I've lost 15 pounds to date, I exercise daily, eating 95-100 % my exercise calories back each day. And, I enjoy a cocktail each day, sometimes two. My nutrients, numbers and food choices are smart, non-processed foods that give me strength and energy.
You can listen to others and their opinions or your can MAKE YOUR OWN PLAN and see how it goes for you, adjusting when neccessary.
Best of Luck! I raise my glass to you0
