I am currently doing cardio and I know the say you should do strength training so you don't lose all of your muscle but I am wondering what type of exercises do you do to like tone up not bulk up??

you could take a group fitness strength class, or use machines in the gym. For strength without bulk you want higher reps with lower weights.

Also you could do crunches, push-ups, tricep dips and squats at home with no purchased equipment :)

I like to do stand up paddleboarding -- if you live in an area where you can do that, it is great for the core and upper body.

    blessings.

Just for full disclosure, tone is a neurological function, and is dictated by the number of fibers that need to be perpetually active to maintain posture and mechanical stability. That is, exercise does not increase the 'hardness' of a muscle group by altering tone. 'Hardness' is primarily achieved by getting subQ and intramuscular fat cells reduced in size, and muscle fibers increased in size. Large numbers of repetitions with low weight might burn calories without creating the kind of overload that achieves muscular hypertrophy. Maybe. But just for the sake of time restrictions, and a desire for the best good out of the least work, I do fewer sets, lower reps, heavier weights, and focus on appropriate diet.

    Hello,

I think you can do strength training with either machine weights or if competent free weights without "bulking up"

It is very hard work to put on much visible muscle mass, and requires a proper weights programme.
You will gain some muscle mass, but not bulking up. By the time women loose the undesired fat there is much less volume and you will not look bulky.

And if you find that you cross the line... well it is so very easy to loose extra muscle that you should not worry!

If you want to add another exercise... well choose something you always wanted to try! There is nothing like a new passion in a sport that will ensure you adhere to it and get great results...

    Best of luck
