Can't keep to anything.

I've been trying to lose weight for years. I first lost the weight by waling back & forth work, 1 & a half miles each way plus not eating an awful lot due to lack of breaks then too tired to eat when I got home but I was always starving & I absolutely hated it.
I lost god knows how much but I went from a big size 14 to a 10 [UK sizing] within 5 months or so. I've recently started to put all the weight back on since moving in with my boyfriend, I'm now a big size 12 in trousers. I don't want to get as big as I was.

A few months ago I logged my food every day for about 2 months, felt I ate really healthy considering how fussy I am but only lost 4 pounds & lost hope. Since then I've gained 10 pounds & can't believe how bad I've gotten. I'm always snacking, always eating junk food..

Basically, every time I've tried to diet, which has been so goddamn much, I can't stick to it for long because the food is boring & repetitive. I'm really fussy with my food. I don't like more than 5 or 6 vegetables, hate fruit & am vegetarian so 'healthy eating' for me was horrible. I ate the same thing every day & got so fed up. I want to try find more I like, I've been trying more & more vegetables lately & I've hated them all. I can't even swallow them. I have to spit it out 'cause I feel like I'm gunna be sick. So I am trying, it's just not getting very far..

Anyway, is anyone else in a similar situation? I just don't want to mess up again. I want to be able to feel happy with my appearance as it's really getting me down. I've recently found out I've suffered depression for the past 6 years which probably hasn't helped my weight.
I know it's my own fault at the end of the day, not sticking to anything, but any tips or advice would be so brilliant right now. Thanks in advance.

maybe find a positive boyfriend...do not be so attached to food...does it provide all the nutrients you need? Whether it is that "rare" flavor or not..and your pretty so dont worry about that. :)

honey, looked at your profile page to see your goals, and look at your food diary. There is nothing logged.

You need to start being accountable for yourself. You need to log EVERYTHING EVERY DAY.

Make it habit, think about what you are eating and do it as often as you brush your teeth.

Nobody can help you remotely here unless you are prepared to start helping yourself.

Set some short term and long term goals. Perhaps to lose 5 pounds by the middle or June or something like that. Think about what you want to achieve ultimately, and break it into small, manageable steps.

Now how would you do that? Do you need to eat cleaner (cant tell you here because your not logging anything!!)
Do you need to exercise more? Do you need to stop going out and drinking?

YOU can make this happen. MFP friends can support you, but only one person will look after you 100% - and thats YOU.

  • Welcome to the site!!

I am vegetarian as well, and before this site, I was not making good choices as well. I do love fruit and veggies, and have added fish to my diet in the last few months, but I was making horrible food choices.

I would recommend to just commit yourself to this site!! Log everything that you eat every day. Then annalyze your days and see where you should focus your first efforts. Do you need to eat less (or more) calories, more protein, less carbs, less sodium...what is the one area that needs attention NOW. Then just concentrate on that area. Make choices that will help in your chosen area. Then once you have that area down and doing well, you could focus on another component of your diet.

Forcefeeding yourself veggies will not automatically make you healthier or lose weight. Take what you do like and work with that. Try new recipes with the existing foods and maybe hide some veggies within those meals if possible. Try new things occassioanlly, you never know, but dont dwell on it.

I would also say to look into a vitamin or two if you are really limiting your food choices. Also drink lots and lots of water!!!

Try to get in some excercise and log it all on here. If you have a goal of any kind, find people on here who are on the same mission. Use the message board to find people in the same situations so you have support and someone to push you.

Feel free to add me if you would like, I am still not the best, but I have come a long way. And remember that you are using this site to find a better way to live your life, not a quick fix diet.

    Good luck!!!

Nothing has been logged for a few months because I got so fed up I pretty much quit. I was logging every day for a month or two before then, though. I was dedicated as hell but I just got so discouraged by the lack of weight loss that I didn't see a point in trying any more but now, I definitely see a a point considering how much I've put on.

Just some basics though, I'm 5foot10.5, 164lbs & aiming to get to 140lbs. I was 140lbs at my thinnest which was the beginning of last year & want to get back to that, maybe a little smaller. I've heard people say that might be too small for my weight but when I was that weight, I was till quite chubby. I know my body best so I know that a little under 140lbs won't be too little for me.

Thank you for what you've said though. I'm going to try to sort my eating habits out, stick through the repetitive boring meals because it WILL be worth it, to lose these extra pounds.

Being a vegetarian who doesn't like many vegetables can't make life easy for you. You might try hitting the produce department in your grocery store and try something new every week. You may find there are more of them out there that you like that you've never even tried.

out of interest, I'm 5 foot 10, so slightly shorter than you but still very tall. I've got to my goal weight of 158.4 pounds, and to get mid bmi im now heading to 150 pounds. In my opinion, if I am lighter than that at my height I am too small. But I am an athlete, and very focused on my strength and health rather than my weight. My fitness is SO much more important than how much I weigh.

Im not going to tell you that you are too small at 140 pounds because everybody else will tell you that. Personally, if I got that light I would be worried and my husband would probably start taking me to see a specialists or a nutritionist.

BUT - I think you have issues with "boring food" and not logging regularly and not sticking to things because you are focusing on your weight too much. I have found that by focusing on my health and fitness I am not only a healthier person but I am active and able to do anything I want PLUS have the benefit of knowing how to lose weight and lose it easily now.

perhaps that's something to consider on your journey?

You're a vegetarian and don't like vegetables? Then what are you eating?

I must admit for years I was a so called vegetarian, but actually I was a junk - a - tarian. All I ate was a bunch of pasta with the occasional veg. Yes I packed on the pounds. This time around I decided to focus on eating healthy and exercising. This has helped me tremendously. I focus less on the scale or calories and more on eating proper, well balanced meals.

You may need to take stock of what foods you like and dislike at a really basic level. Not "I Like stir fry", more like "I like brown rice. I like broccoli, etc..." Then focus on building meal plans based on what you do like. If your palette is limited, it will take some time to explore new foods and find healthy ones you like.

My diary is open. feel free to browse or ask questions.

ETA: I went back to April to find a few diary's that you had completed. I did not even see the 5 or 6 veg you like listed It appears that you were eating all carbs and processed food. I don't know how log you have been a vegetarian but fake meat such as Quorn is also processed food and should only be used to supplement a vegetarian diet. You may not have lost because without any green veg or fresh fruit in your diet there isn't enough fiber for you to process your food. I also didn't see a lot of water being drunken even though you drank tea several times a day.

Try adding some veg to your diet, drinking water plain and limiting the processed foods. Also when you plan you meals, try to think of eating habits that you can adopt for life. Diets don't work. Changing your eating habits to healthier ones sets you on a pattern for life.

I know the feeling so well....when you don't see real results and everyone around you is losing so much more than you (my auntie and I both diet, but shes much more dedicated than me and is now the same weight, despite being nearly 2 stone heavier at one point)

But i've found the only way to see results is to keep at it. The lower down the scale you are, the harder I find it to lose weight, inches may be coming off, but we too often get obsessed with scales and what they say.

I've finally found my "boot up the *kitten*" to get me to the gym and really kicking the eating habits I had. You'll find yours and I hope its soon.

This site will only work if you do ebcome accountable though. you HAVE to log your food and exercise. And if your ever stuck for idfeas, browse the ofdrums...theres so mant recipies on there!!!

Hope this post has been of some help x
