Getting Healthier

Hello! My name is Beth and I am here to get healthier. I was REALLY fluffy-- I am 5 ft 2 in tall and I started out at the rediculous weight of 368 pounds and I have lost 113 pounds so far. Was I unhappy at that weight? Not every day...but was I healthy? Absolutely not. I found a wonderful bariatric surgeon with my primary physician's help and got the gastric sleeve done on 11/29/10. This was not a vanity decision, but a survival decision. My mom died of a primary liver cancer caused by complications of her diabetes, and I was headed down the very same road that took her from us. I physically could not work out at that weight and just getting through a day took every last ounce of my energy. This was my last chance to get on a healthier track and to start taking care of myself once and for all. I turned 40 years old this year, so if I didn't do something soon.....something life altering and drastic to take control of my life, I was going to end up in a box 6 feet under or in a vase on someone's mantle somewhere. 113 pounds later and I feel better than I did at 38, 35, heck at 31. Now I understand the importance of taking control of my life and making healthy choices---and now I have the tools to do it. Was the surgery a quick fix? No. Is it the easy way out? Nope. BUT it is a valuable tool to use on my journey and it gave me the forceful shove in the right direction that I needed to start being a healthier person. Now I work out at least 4 days a week and I use the tools here to keep my intake in check. I look forward to meeting other people who are also on this journey, and I wish you all the best of luck.
