Eating the same thing

I tend to eat the same thing for breakfast. I'd even prefer to eat the same thing for lunch every day. My dinners are usually different.
Question: Is it "bad" to eat close to the same thing every day? If the food is "healthy", is it still not good to eat every day?
When I eat the same things it helps me to stay on track. It seems like I get off track with my diet when I eat something different for breakfast.
I usually have egg, toast, and coffee. If I'm super hungry. I'll eat a grapefruit or banana. Lunches I LOVE homemade fruit smoothies. Thanks

 If I didn't have a husband to cook for, I'd probably eat the same thing every day. Even so, I eat from a very narrow range of food. It makes it easier. It allows me to use food for fuel instead of recreation And, it has worked   :bigsmile:0

Well if your daily diet is confirmed as having all the nutrients you need (don't know) including all the micronutrients and minerals, then it's fine to eat the same if you like.
But if it's dominated by specific nutrients and lacking in others then you need to mix it up more.
I am pretty fussy so I often end up eating the same kind of things because I'm scared of trying new things.0 -
Bump!! I eat the same also for Breakfast and lunch and dinner is diff.If I do get something different for lunch it seems to make me make more bad food decisions for the week.0

I was wondering the same thing this morning.
Any answers?0 -
I tend to stick to the same thing for breakfast also...either oatmeal and turkey bacon, low fat whole wheat waffles, 2 fried eggs, turkey bacon or 3 boiled eggs and turkey bacon...so while I do have a variety of meals...its always one of the three...my other meals vary though...depending on how much I have worked out that day!!!0

I do the same! My breakfast and lunches are basically the same thing everyday. Just make sure to check out your MFP stats at the end of the day to see if you're getting enough of everything. If you are, and you enjoy what you're eating, then so be it!0

I eat the same thing almost every day for breakfast and lunch. Dinner varies from day to day but not much from week to week. I think as long as you like what you're eating and seeing a loss, you're okay.0

As long as your dinners round out the nutrients that you may be missing at breakfast and lunch - I'd say you are good to go. I too tend to eat alot of the same things at meals and I don't feel that it has hurt.
Good Luck!0 -

I'd go with that. I tend to eat the same thing alll the time.0 -
I eat mostly the same stuff over and over again too. I read just yesterday that this is something that Dr. Oz recommends because seeing less variety will actually help you eat less. As long as what you eat is reasonably healthy, which it sounds like to me, than this should be fine! I have the same cereal for breakfast almost everyday, and when I was growing up, I at the same sandwich everyday for YEARS! Do what feels right, and keep it simple. Why cause more problems for yourself right?0

I haven't read all the responses (I've been out of town and trying to catch up) but I tend to do the same thing with breakfast, but in actuality, we'd all get a much better balanced diet over the week if we switched it up and ate different foods every day. It's easy, I know to eat the same things but I'm sure a dietician would tell us all to mix our meals up and even add new foods to our menus that we don't normally eat. My husband and I have recently (this year) added KALE to our list of new foods...along with the darker, green & purple lettuces to our salads. I read an article about all the health benefits of kale and now can't imagine a bland iceburg lettuce salad ever again.0

When I did Slimming World the mantra there was if losses are slow or you hit a plateaux mix stuff up. Like from green to original days and switch your fibre intake about. Maybe instead of having oatmeal everyday, have a tin of chopped tomatoes on toast for breakfast, instead of a sandwich or wrap for lunch, have a pasta salad. Instead of potatoes, rice or pasta with evening meal have quinoa, buckwheat or couscous. It does work, shocking the body makes it work differently so usually get better losses0
