"Stretching" your stomach? Volume vs. Calories?

So I have grown up believing appetite is about how big your stomach is stretched out to be, and if you eat smaller amounts, your stomach would eventually shrink.

The first time I started watching what I ate, I would try to cut portions into halves and eat more often. So half cup of greek yogurt or half cup of beans or half tuna sandwich. I ate a total of 1200 calories, and it felt very easy to me.

Now, I'm noticing myself eating a whole can of beans to make sure I have enough calories 2 hours before yoga. Or last night, finishing my taqueria burrito because it was the best in a long time, and its never as good when you save it for later. Not to mention, I had a lot of calories saved up too.

So I am possibly(?) keeping my stomach stretched, even though I'm eating the same 1200 calories as before? Am I setting myself up to be more hungry?

I believe this is an argument of volume vs calories.

As long as you are sticking within your goals and eating healthy foods, you will lose weight. If you try to deprive yourself you will fail. Educate yourself on healthy foods. Get recipes online and cook for yourself. Try to stay away form processed and fast foods as much as you can. Don't make excuses!

I have been doing similar. Before I was eating less but not losing. Now it feels like I'm eating more but I fill up on a fair amount of fruit and veg and I still enjoy my treat food that keeps me from binging. I went to a party last week and my stomach actually hurt from all the food I ate. It must be shrinking as before I wouldn't have noticed

To be honest, I'm eating a greater volume of food now than I was before I started eating more healthily and I'm losing weight and I'm never hungry. I'm also finding that the further along I get, the smaller my appetite is becoming. I think it shrinks naturally, I wouldn't worry too much about volume! I think it's good to eat a high volume of healthy food as it keeps you full.
