NSV: Race to the Taste 5k

I ran the Race to the Taste (of Chicago) 5k this morning and PR'ed w/ 25:43. My last 5k PR was the very first one I ran in 2006 w/ 26:15, everything since has been mid 27's to 29 coming off a fractured rib. Funny thing was I felt crappy the whole way. I rode my bike 6 mi to the race and got there early. I started too fast, my stomach was starving, and my legs were already shredded from the ride and sitting around. Seeing the clock at the 2 mile mark confirm a pace that warranted the complaints from my legs and lungs gave me the dig to keep feeling "just a bit uncomfortable" the rest of the way. (otherwise I knew I'd just feel uncomfortable longer)
My only disappointment about this morning is that I didn't sign up, so I won't have an official chip time, just my HRM time. This was just a time trial for a later race. It's the first time I've followed a training plan, instead of just running as fast as I felt like on any given day. I'm amazed at what just 8 weeks has done, and I'm totally pumped to finish out this training cycle and PR again Aug. 4th, hopefully this time with a happy stomach, legs, and lungs.
