We are going on vacation next week. We are driving 10 hours and staying in a vacation rental with family. The rental has a full kitchen, so I'll be able to make breakfast and lunch. Dinners will be trickier as we'll mostly be doing communal meals or eating out. Food while traveling will be interesting too.

Would love to hear your thoughts and ideas on how to stay on track!

For the eating out/communal dinners I'd probably "just" use portion control, drink lots of water and eat slowly so that I can feel when I'm about full and stop before I over-eat......but that can be hard enough to control once you're off and in good company ;-)

For the travel food we usually make our own sandwiches using bread with lots of fibres (sometimes we make the bread ourselves), and put in loads of salad, cucumber, peppers and tomatoes -and meat of your choice ranging from the classic grilled chicken breast and bacon over serrano ham, mozarella cheese (the real stuf....not the shredded industrial product named mozarella) and semi-dried tomatoes.

For snacks we usually pack a lot of carrots and cucumbers cut into sticks (you can mix a dip for these too if you want to) and fruits cut in into bite-sizes......perhaps supplemented by some fibre rich bread (which can be dried in the oven into grissini style sticks).

I would take plenty of fruit for the journey, and snacking between meals. Try to get some execercise each day, so that you offset some of the calories (have you got some activity planned?). Also small portions, if you cant control what you eat, thenI would try to controlv how much I eat. Above all have a great time and get right back to it when you get home, and dont worry too much x

I do plan to bring my 30 day Shred DVD and we will be doing some hiking, so I should be able to fit in some activity each day.

    Thanks for the tips--love them!
