I bought my dad Vibrams for fathersday, so he can use them for kettlebell training

    he absolutely adores them.

I tried them (probably shouldnt have) and they seemed dead comfy (tempted to buy myself a pair now)

You just have to make sure you measure your foot properly for them to get the right size.

I've never heard of the other ones

I have had the Vibram five fingers for almost a year. They are great for running or if I have a ton of walking to do at work. (Yes, I have an understanding boss as my shoes are bright orange and hot pink). I love the feel. The only down side is that by the end of the day, my feet are hot - but this happens with most shoes I guess. Putting them on takes practice, a good trick is to baby power your toes first.

They are light, comfy, and a socially acceptable way to go barefoot.

My wife bought me VFF Komodo Sports for my birthday (how awesome is she???!!!) Anyway, I love them! They are incredibly comfy. I have worn them walking, jogging, biking, and just out for general use. I did invest in a pair of Injinji toe socks too. Makes getting the. VFF's on alot easier...although I can get them on easily barefoot now. Check out www.fivefingersoutlets.com. they have a bunch at a slightly discounted rate. My wife bought mine from a local store as the outlet store didn't sell the Komodos.

I have only ever worm VFFs for running. I made the switch from a traditional running shoe a year and a half ago as I figured I had nothing to lose by trying as traditional runners were destroying my feet/legs/back. Within a month of switching I noticed a definite improvement in my balance and every day living pain. A year and a half later I have not had a single episode of the crippling (ie laid up for weeks barely able to move) back pain that was being caused by constant muscle straines. My balance is better, my body is stronger, my toes have straightened out/separated and I can leave wicked bruises by pinching you with my mighty flexible toes :P

I cannot comment on the FILAs because I have never worn them but the main difference is they are a 4 pocket versus 5 pocket for toes (to avoid "toe snag" i would assume - I have yet to do this *knocks on wood*).

With most "barefoot shoes" there is a considerable break in period. Don't think you'll be able to put these babies on and then head out for a 10k run. It may feel good and you may feel free but you WILL get hurt. Your feet are not accustomed to supporting themselves, they are used to the shoe doing the work for them. Small incremental wearings to not only soften the sole but to also adjust your foot/leg muscles to be stronger. If you are already a runner you will also find there is a learning curve in not running with a heel strike. I personally had a relatively short break in period and no adjustment to running as I had never run before, so I had nothing to unlearn. Walking long distances however have proved tricky as I have 33 years of unlearning on that -l-
