I've lost 240 with a gastric bypass about 5 years ago. Since then I've probably gained about 35 pounds. I've been trying to eat better and think about exercising. But for some reason do not get to the gym. I keep sabotaging myself and I'm not sure why. I can't really talk about it with my family, even though they are supportive...they just am sick of hearing me complain about something and not do anything about it. I thought if I started this and then I could get some ideas on what to do.

I don't go to a gym either - I prefer to work out at home or walk, although I did add a Zumba class at the community center 2x a week a few months ago. One thing I do to keep motivated is start my day on MFP, and I also join challenges on here. I set my weighins for the 2 challenges I am involved in for Friday and Monday, since the weekend is my trouble spot. Good luck!!

I'm sorry you feel you can't talk to your family but you've come to the right place, MFP is such a supportive community.

Developing healthy eating habits takes time but gradually you will get there. My advice would be to take small steps. Maybe first work on just sticking to your daily calorie allowance and then, once you've got that down you could look at improving the quality of your calories one meal at a time or you could work on increasing your fruit and veg intake.

Set yourself small, mini manageable goals, that way you can track and measure your success.

    Good luck

thank you. Every bit helps. And my family is great, don't get me wrong. I think I've become the "boy who cried wolf" so to speak. But I really want to do this. There are two classes at the gym tonight that I'm going to try. It's just the getting there. A spinning class and a power sculpt class. I've been to them both last year and I wasn't up to the classes level, but I was able to manage to keep up. So I'm going to try. I do have a goal that I want to accomplish, and that's by getting as close to my goal weight as possible by next May.
