Maximum amount you should drink in one day?

I've been drinking pretty much non-stop today, it's boiling hot today plus I did a 20 min kettlebell workout and 10 minutes of skipping, and I have a physical job, I think i've drunk about 4 litres of water with sugar free squash (fruit flavour water flavouring if you don't have that in the US) and 2 cups of tea. I have been sweating like mad all day though, what's the recommended maximum amount? Sorry I don't know fluid ounces!

Just make sure you get some sodium in there too, otherwise you can throw off your electrolyte balance. Otherwise you'd be hard pressed to drink "too much", especially if you're sweating a lot. Now if you drank non stop all day and were not sweating, you might have an issue. My husband has kidney stones and so has to drink a lot, and his doc just told him to take a pinch of salt if he was drinking more than 2 liters.
  • I have done some research on this because I drink large amounts of water and so far what I've come up with one's daily intake should be 8-12 cups (8 oz) a day. Unless you're an athlete or an infant water intoxication is unlikely. Think that your body is made up of mostly water and you have to replenish that on a daily basis. This is just basic research but if you want to know for you personally it might behoove you to talk to your doctor!

They say about 64oz a day which works out to be about 4 regular size water bottles. But if you are in the heat, exercising, and have a physical job you'll need more water than that. My suggestion is drink it until you’re satisfied. If you're worried you might have a problem you should have yourself checked for diabetes as excessive thirstiness is a symptom.

I usually try to drink between 2-3.5 liters of water per day. I've heard a lot that drinking half your weight in oz. of water is considered healthy. So i currently weigh approx. 220 lbs, I aim for 110oz. I have a 1 liter water bottle, I should be drinking 3 full bottles + 2ish glasses.

Just to let you know 1 liter of water is approx. 32oz so just multipy to figure it out.

Thanks everyone, that's really helpful! Emmerrs thanks for that, I always wondered. So according to that I should drink 2.25 litres a day, I carry a 1 litre water bottle around at work and have had about 6 large glasses on top of that today...but it is unusually hot for England at the moment! I have been a bit worried about diabetes as I have a lot of symptoms - excessive thirst, fatigue (I have a nap every single day after work and I nearly fall asleep driving on trips over an hour), and a certain woman's problem that happens a lot, ahem..but i'll see if this improves by eating really healthily, taking a probiotic mult-vit, exercising 6 days a week and getting at least 7 hours sleep a night before I go to the doctor.

Even now at 10 to midnight my mouth is so dry! I wonder if smoking is a factor in that though. That's next to cross off my to-do list :)

I forgot to say, thanks, i'll look into this - my sodium for today is 805mg but I added a pinch of sea salt to my mashed cauli earlier.
