Hi,

Recently I have had abit of a diet and fitness overhaul after going through a long plateau and I am currently exercising twice a day. I am doing the 30 day shred in the morning for 20 minuets every day and then going to the gym 5 evenings a week doing 25 mins cardio and 25 mins weights...or there about anyway.

I am also eating a balanced diet with 5 meals a day and have included protein shakes into my diet to increase protein and calorie intake. I am coming out of a starvation mode and gained around 6lbs since doing this a few weeks ago but this is now slowly coming off and I am loosing weight again. I eat around 1600 calories NET a day so depending on what day it is I always make sure I am not below this as my BMR is 2100.

Any way, i was just wondering if this is too much excersise for my body or if I am ok as I am eating enough to compensate for the exercise, i am not experiencing any injury and I am loosing weight and inches.

I just keep getting alot of criticism from people who say they think I am doing too much and I can’t handle it or I am silly ect....

Thanks for your help,
Grace

don't have an answer, but curious as to what others say.

I think that if you feel good, then it's okay. If you are tired/exhausted then your body needs rest.

Youre totally fine :) And HUGE kudos on eating it back. That's the way you can do it!

I assure you many of us test the limits on what the body can handle, and you're doing great!

I don't think it's too much at all. I think it's great that you have so much activity in your daily routine. As long as you are feeling good, I say go for it! :)

I agree. I do about 2-3 classes in the gym mon-fri, so usually that's a daily burn of about 1,000 cals. I think you're doing well. Lots of people make stupid comments on exercise and weight without having a clue!!! Stick with it!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Listen to your body. If you are feeling good and not too tired and losing weight, you are fine. Many athletes workout more than once a day for several hours. Buuuuut, if you feel really drained one day or your bones/joints hurt, then you may want to take a workout off. Drink lots of water and make sure you are eating enough to fuel those work outs.

    Great job! :drinker:

Get a HR monitor and make sure you are getting enough calories back that you burn. You are def not overdoing it.

Are your clothes fitting looser? Don't let the scale be your only measurement for success. And if you can handle it, keep at it. I'm trying to burn 1500 calories each workout. These last 10 pounds are killer.

Yes, you CAN exercise too much.

I had previously done P90X & Insanity and I'd get on forums and see that people were doing "doubles" (a P90X workout in the moring and an Insanity workout in the afternoon). What a lot of these people didn't realize is that they were probably burning 1000+ calories in their daily workouts. Combine that with the fact that they probably weren't eating enough to sustain this activity level and that spells recipe for disaster (overtraining).

But from what the OP is saying, I don't think they are overtraining.

As you appear to be fairly experienced and fit, I would say you are fine as long as

    A) You train with different intensity and use some of your workouts as "Recovery"

    B) You ensure that you have at least one rest day

    C) You use this to kickstart your weight loss and don't plan to keep at it for longer than say a month.

You need to mix things up whatever routine you do as your body adapts. Just don't push too hard for too long or you will inevitably suffer.

    Good Luck

You can exercise too much. My trainer is always getting on me for that, he says 5 days is enough about an hour each day. If you are only working out 5 days a week that is good cause you are getting two days rest. You only need to workout once a day. I would try to combine your workout some more and get it down to about an hour.

Your body would let you know if it was too much :) If you feel like your going to pass out half way through or be sick, then I'd just lessen the intensity of your exercise. But if not, go for it!
I exercise almost 2 hours a day, 20 minutes strength, the rest is cardio and I always feel fine.
Just remember to eat right and drink lots of water!

I work out an hour every moning to group fitness classes at my local YMCA 5 to 6 days a week. I usually do 3 cardio classes (zumba, cardio fusion, cycle), two mucle work classes, and one muscle work/cardio hybrid class. I try to fit in at least two extra cardio classes at night as well. My goal is 8 hours of exercise a week. I wasn't losing as much weight as I had hoped at first, but have definitely gotten much stronger, have a ton more endurance, and feel great! I just recently cut back my calorie goal and have starting losing 1-2 pounds a week, depending on how much I "cheat" on the weekends :-) I use my body as an indicator when to slow down. If i'm really sore from previous workouts, I try to at go for a walk to keep from getting stiff.
