Hanging out with the "girls" and our kids today. We're BBQin' hotdogs (*shiver*). I'm bringing a watermelon too. Would it be weird for me to bring something else to throw on the grill for myself? Or maybe I'll just make myself a chicken salad to bring... Thoughts?

I always bring something healthy to grill! some yummy veggie/shrimp kabobs maybe? if anything, they will just think you are a grill master!0

I don't think it is rude, I see a lot of people that will bring their own meat to a barbque. It might be nice on their feelings to let them know that you brought it because you are on a diet and the dogs aren't good for your needs, but it isn't required.0

Do it! Everyone will understand. I take healthy options to picnics just so I'll have something I can enjoy without the guilt. Either bring enough for everyone else to share, or pack your own lunch.0

Absolutely, it will be ok! I don't eat hotdogs too much..if I want that kind of fat, I'm eating pizza,0

It's a hotdog. It's not going to kill you.0

I'd take something for myself defo! A nice bit of salmon - yum, perhaps take an extra bit so you could offer some to someone else too?0

It' wouldn't be as weird as years down the road having a massive heart attack at one of the BBQs! Think of how uncomfortable that would make people feel. Either bring something consistent with your diet or skimp on other aspects of your days diet so you can have a couple dogs without feeling guilty or exceeding your calorie goals.0

take turkey dogs! Maybe some of the other moms will follow you.0

I've been friends with these girls for years and I know there won't be judgements. I wouldn't have thought twice about this in the past, would've just eaten a hotdog and moved on. I'm really trying to eat clean though because I've noticed how much better I feel so the idea of a hot dog just doesn't appeal to me. Kabobs are a great idea though since they cook quickly and I can pick up some pre-made ones. Thanks for the input everyone!0

i think its fine to bring your own ONLY if u bring enough to share. Otherwise I think it's rude (especially to the host -regrdless of what is being prepared) to sit there eating "your" food while everyone else eats something else0

I do it all of the time! If I'm invited to anything where food will be served, people kind of expect me to. Then again, I'm vegan! ;-)
Nothing wrong with bringing some veggies, hummus, and a frozen veggie burger pattie or two to a BBQ.0 -
For anyone curious, I ended up bringing some chicken kabobs and we threw those on with doggies. Setting a good example worked cause we all ate well. The watermelon was super yummy and refreshing too. I thought about grabbing a cookie, but it was more force of habit than anything...the watermelon had hit the sweet tooth and I was satisfied so I walked away from the cookies! Making better lifestyle choices keeps getting easier and easier0

i'm glad you felt like you could bring something else.
my two cents is that i always bring my own food and if people find it 'rude' or 'not the right thing to do' then it's there problem.
a hotdog to me sounds vile (i'm not a huge fan of any types of meat but chicken) so people tend to just let me work away when i bring my own stuff. it's more to do with taste than weight loss for me but if you tell people it's a taste thing they don't complain/ask questions as much0
