tattoo over scar?
hey everyone! im 21 and had major hip surgery in march this year - i'm finally healed up and getting back to working out (and have lost 13 lbs since my peak post-surgery weight). i'm training for a half marathon again and all is going well but i have these three nasty scars on my hip (one toward the front, one on the side, and one further back).
i'm thinking that i want to reward myself when i reach my weight loss goal by getting a tattoo and am considering getting one to cover the scars (once they're healed enough). i was wondering if anyone had any experience with this or if anyone had any suggestions of a cool design or anything (for me the significance would be about the placement, not the design - i just want something pretty)
thanks!
courtney

My tattoo artist offered to tattoo a zipper over my scar from thyroid surgery but he said to wait at least two years.0

I had a friend who had another tattoo to cover up tattoo that she didn't like. I wouldn't think that the tattoo artist wouldn't do a tattoo to cover up scars unless it is a odd design. Talk to your doctor or tattoo artist to ensure that what you want to do.0

I had tattoos to cover my tummy tuck scar. It worked beautifully, but it HURT LIKE HELL. scars are very sensitive. I also waited a few years to do it. if the scar is not smooth you may not get good results, try to find an artist that has done it before, and a good artist will be able to help you come up with a design and the best placement so it fits your body, flows with your curves, etc.0

OMG, the zipper idea.. fabulous!! My husband has an upcoming surgery this week, and he was talking about the same thing -- getting a tattoo right there.0

i had a friend that got a band-aid tattoo over her c-section scar. she said the area had no feeling so it didnt hurt too much but im not sure how long she waited to have it done. but she did clear it with her doctor.0

This is the best thread ever. I am totally geting a tattoo of a giant tiger over my stretch marks now...or maybe a herd of zebras. Brilliant!0

be careful tattooing over stretch marks, they're not the same as scars, the ink will bleed and spread out into the stretch mark, find a very experienced artist who has experience doing it!! or you will end up with a blob of ink!0 -
so i'm thinking of doing 'lo que no te mata te hace mas fuerte' (what doesn't kill you makes you stronger - i think - will double check first of course) in pretty script over my scars (they're in a line)0

My husband has a scar on his leg, and he got a tattoo over it, and you can't even see the scar anymore... He said it hurt more there though. SORRY!0

my artist won't do over scars, he said that the ink doesn't hold well, the pain is worse, and it's tougher to do because of the elasticity of the scar.0

hurts like hell!! mine is 6 years old now, as dark and clear as ever!!! guess it depends on the artist, their experience with it, and also the condition of the scar........0 -
Thanks for the input - I guess it'll depend on if I can find someone who has experience / is willing to do it0

i have a garter that goes all the way around my thigh -- the ink over the stretch marks looks different then the rest of the tattoo and i had to have those spots touched up more often.
a good artist will NOT tattoo over scar tissue because the ink doesn't "stick" as well and needs to be redone frequently.0
