I am sitting here really angry and upset, crying because there is nothing to eat in the house. My parents only have a limited grocery budget and my mom needs to feed me my dad, brother, her, me and my boyfriend and sometimes my nephew. I don't have a job since I am only home for the summer and no one will hire me. I am so sick of eating eggs and cereal and fruit every day. What am I supposed to do? Even if we had more money for groceries I wouldn't even know what to get. I am so careful about all the nutrition info and I am sometimes picky so it's like I am so limited. I am just frustrated when I need to be doing my homework for my online class in which theres a midterm due on Friday and all I can think about is what the hell am I supposed to eat when there's nothing to eat. I have recently tried to up my calories too which makes it NO easier.

Are you saying that there literally is no food in the house, or that there is no healthy food that you feel you should eat? Hopefully it is the latter and if so, perhaps you should encourage your mother to buy healthier foods for the entire family. Whether or not they need or want to lose weight she should still use what money she has to buy healthy foods. It really is just as cheap or cheaper to buy healthy food than unhealthy.

If you don't mind eating them dry beans, lentils, rice, and the like are inexpensive to purchase and easy enough to cook as well as being nutritious. Then need some seasoning to taste really good, but a little seasoning can go a long where. The beans mixed with a grain like rice of quinoa makes a complete protein and are quite filling. In season veggies and fruit are usually less expensive. I also suggest that if food is short there is no shame in going to the food bank (if you have one locally) for help.

This is the problem. There is SOME food in the house, mostly processed foods like bologna and high fat cheese for the guys in my house.

We have shopped for healthier foods before and she needs to get the BAD foods for the guys because they like those and will only eat those. We have cooked healthy dinners together which I think she gets sick of because she does not like to do a lot of food preparation for dinner, even though I help her. She said to me once, "lets not get anything weird" when we shopped together.

Healthy food doesn't have to be expensive. Try local produce stores for fruits/vegetables. And really, there's not much meat/poultry/fish you can't have (though you'd like to try to avoid the extremely calorie dense cuts perhaps).

Where do you guys shop for groceries? maybe for beverages, buy tea bags. the dollar stores have stuff such as pasta which is handy, although not great for diets. Frozen veges instead of fresh is good. Hope this helps.^.^

Those guys sound like my husband when we first got married! But he didn't even realize he was eating healthy for a while. Ground turkey usually costs less than ground beef these days, and beans are great way to eat healthy without dieting. Black bean soup, cajun red beans and brown rice, pinto beans and cornbread (you can take it light on the cornbread to lessen calories), chicken and/or bean burritoes in a low carb wrap (I'll be the guys wouldn't even notice that it's not a regular tortilla), blackened fish or chicken. All of these are foods that are inexpensive to make and can be very healthy but are not usually thought of as diet foods.

If your mom does like or have time to cook, offer to do the cooking for everyone.
