Hi All :-D
After unbalancing for an hour at my very first Body Balance class at my newly joined gym, I started talking to another class member. She told me about this site and enthusiastically suggested I get involved as it had helped her enormously.
All I can say is that if I end up looking as good as her at any time in the future, I'm in :-D
This damned menopause crept up on me, although in hindsight, projectile sweating and salads attaching themselves to my waist should have aroused my suspicions a little earlier.
I thought I was eating a good sensible low fat diet but the food diary is a revelation!
If there are any other ladies out there battling the effects of the menopause I would love to hear from you with any tips or advice :-D

Welcome welcome! I'm battling the clammy nights and sudden heat at the minute too (though I've recently switched to soy milk and yoghurts and that seems to help. A bit)
Body Balance is great, isn't it!0 -
As we go through menopause our metabolism slows. So what we ate before doesn't work anymore. If you lower you calories for the day and do a little exercise you will lose the menopause weight you gained. I can't help with the hot flashes though.0

Hiya :-D
I really enjoyed the Body Balance class and the fact I was wobbling around for most of it hasn't put me off :-D
The hot flushes and profuse sweating at night have almost driven me nuts - the sleep deprivation it causes is reminiscent of sleepless nights when my daughter was young :-/ I tried soy milk too but it made no difference and spend most of my time with a fan pointed at my face :-D0 -
I think I can help you all with the hot flashes part.. Yes I know I am a guy and I wont understand. haha! Bear with me here. I am also a massage therapist and have used this time and time again with great results. If you all have been pregnant before and have heard of the SPOTS to avoid when pregnant for contact or accupuncture. Well now is the time to use those spots. You can use accupressure or accupuncture that is up to you. I have had a few women tell me that just the weekly massage on those spots I was doing almost eliminated their hot flashes. So all you can do is try right. Best I can do! =0)
So first spot in case you dont know or remember is the thumb joint (headache spot to some) so as far back on the thumb where it connects to the hand. Apply firm pressure there for 10-15 seconds at a time alternating both sides. Second area is the base of the foot at the heel. If you were to look at the side of your heel and make a triangle out of it. That entire area you can massage and apply pressure to daily or weekly at your choosing. Get your husband to do it! =0)
So in pregnancy these spots are used by accupressure and accupuncture to induce contractions of the uterus. Now you are going to use them for hot flashes. Hope it helps you all! =0) Cheers!0 -
I'm done with menopause - well almost. I must admit I was lucky and had few symptoms, but the killer for me was, and still is, insomnia (never realized it was a symptom until my doctor asked me how I was sleeping). Feel free to add me.0

Thanks
I joined a gym 3 weeks ago and have managed 4 times each week so far with a mixture of cardio and toning exercises, plus a couple of classes. I'm going to fill in the food diary daily and keep an eye on my calorie intake, so fingers crossed0 -
WOW
I've got my sock off already! I'm going to give this a try, I'll try ANYTHING to eliminate these hot flushes ... or boil in the bag head as I affectionately refer to them
Thank you0 -

Thank you
I have a 75% effective rate at this point so I can not GUARANTEE it will work BUT you have a chance. I hope it works for you! =0)0 -
Thank you I will
I've done an enormous amount of research and I've found 48 possible symptoms of the menopause so far!!
You were very lucky to have few symptoms and you have my sympathy with regard to your insomnia. I've found that any good advice hard to find and welcome any help0 -
75% success rate is good for me
I have never come across this advice before and EVERYTHING else I have tried has failed ... I will let you know how I get on

You could actually speak to an acupuncturist and see what they have to say. The spots I am telling you about are the ones used by them on a regular basis. Maybe they can help you with a more permanent fix with it, but this way is cheaper. Just a thought though. Cheers!0
