Need Some Suggestions, Please!

Hey everyone! I've been off and on here for about a year...and have been having some issues lately with food. My fiance and I recently split, and I have been struggling to make ends meet. I have 2 kids, and very little help from their father, so it has been difficult. I've been having to hit the food bank to get enough food to keep the kids fed, and the choices aren't always the healthiest. You kinda get what you get... I need ideas on how to prepare some of the items we get into more nutritous meals.
Most weeks, I will get:
a dessert item (cookies usually)
peanut butter
4 pounds of ground beef
1-2 pounds chicken or turkey
2 pounds of beef (roast or steak)
bread
fruit
some canned veggies
hamburger helper (2 boxes)
Beggers can't be choosers, and I appreciate everything they are doing...but it's hard to lose weight with a menu like that!
