Right people!! I need an idea for tea tonight. I am SOOOO hungry today so want something tasty and filling, yet not full of cals and carbs. This is the sort of night we would have ordered takeway (and i really dont want to do that!!)

Also need to go shopping so the cupboards are a little bare but not empty.

Ideas please...............

  • I'm planning beef tomato's stuffed with cous cous and diced pepers, a touch of mint and lemon juice with some salad......I'm not sure how many cals it's going to be as I'm new to the site - but I THINK it's quite healthy!

Last night I made skinnytaste.com's Turkey Burgers with Zucchini & Black Bean, Avocado, Cucumber and Tomato Salad. It was so filling and delicious AND my 12yr old actually ate the meal!

This is going to sound so sad...but one of favourite all time dinners is...chips, beans and sausages
Don't get me wrong I will try anything (within reason) that's put in front of me, and I do enjoy spicy food, it's just one of my favourites.

Gyros. I've had the lamb marinating for 2 days, but they're certainly possible to make without marinating the meat. Using Nancy's Tzatziki (http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?recipe=809319), using 2% Fage yogurt instead of non-fat, total dinner tonight will be ~400 kcal. That could easily be lowered by using non-marinated chicken breast meat.

edit to add: Second idea. I had this for dinner Friday night and Monday night because the family was gone and I was tired; very quick and easy. Chicken tenders (or breast cut in strips), sautee'd with peppers, mushrooms, and goat cheese over a bed of lettuce (Friday) or quinoa (Monday). Total prep + cooking time was 15 or 20 minutes.

I have a few "cheat dinners" for when I really can't be arsed (or when I fancy a take away!)

M&S chicken escalopes, some oven chips and a small tin of beans usally does the trick. Weight your portion of oven chips though!!

or else chicken fajita's (minus the dips and cheese) in a wholemeal pitta.

Or a chilli - I use tukey mince as it is much leaner - I serve with green veg and a little serving of rice.

At the moment I am loving new potatoes. I boil a 200g portion (140 cals) and then add a teeny bit of olive oil to a pan, I dice half a red onion and 1/4 or red pepper finely and add to the hot oil. I then half the baby new potatoes and fry little in oil, onion and pepper. I add a dribble of balsamic vinegar at the end.... Honestly I have not missed chips once since I discovered balsamic new potatoes LOL!

I also make my own curry but sometimes when I feel lazy I will use a low fat Jalfrezi mixture from Waitrose. Half a jar is 140 cals !!

what about a chicken breast and veggie curry with brown rice? depending on what you use for the sauce it could be really low cal and very filling. you can even buy some whole wheat naan bread to eat with it.. I think i might make this tonight. :) Without he naan. although i did want to try to make some on the bbq soon.
