Hi guys,

I walk on average 5 miles a day on shape-ups, stick to a pretty clean diet of 1200 cals a day and in the first 2 months lost a stone in weight. Im having a hysterectomy in 10 days and am on a number of tablets including tranexamic acid and a number of painkillers. Could my condition be causing the inability to lose more wieght do you think?

My husband thinks it might be my body holding onto a certain amount of fat to protect me and that when Ive had the op the weight loss will start again (as soon as I can excercise again that is).

Any opinions? I feel really bummed out by it.

While it's sweet that your husband is trying to be supportive, your body doesn't know that you're about to have a hysterectomy so I think his reasoning is a bit flawed.

The stress of being ill and anticipating major surgery could certainly be impeding your weight loss goals somewhat, and so could some of the medications. Your doctor should be able to tell you if weight gain is a side effect of any of the drugs you're taking.

As you've been working at weight loss for several months, you might also be hitting a natural plateau point, too.

Just an update for my wife Hairotica.

She had her hysterectomy on Monday and was released on Tuesday. She's doing fantastic and thankfully no external scarring so she is SO happy!
She is so happy with her flat tummy but knows she keeps bloating then going down, then bloating etc - but she can't wait to get back to exercising!

PS - the holding on to water thing was because she had fibroids - when they removed her womb, they said it was the size of a 4-5m pregnancy!
