Weight Gain

Hi,
I'm new here, but I definitely love the site!
I'm trying to use myfitnesspal to help me gain weight (muscle). I'm the kind of guy that literally eats 3300 calories a day and still doesn't put on a pound, so keeping track is important. (before anyone gets sarcastic with me and says "we should all have such problems"... this is a real issue for me so please be respectful?) Ok, so my question is... is there any plan to add tools to myfitnesspal to gain weight that are simliar to the weight loss tools... where it would say... be the exact opposite? For me, weight loss makes my heart sink, and weight gain makes me jump for joy. It would be so nice to see badges for weight gain as well...
Also, for anyone in the same boat as me... what are you currently doing?
Robert

Have you been checked by a doctor for Diabetes, Over Active Thyroid or Celiac's disease. I think it's great that you can eat what ever you want but there could be some underlinning reason. That is very unusual. I think I have seen this before.
We will support you if you want to lose or gain. Just post with your progress either way. Good Luck0 -
no PX90...you need to be on a regimented diet that incurs more protein for growth, and taken at various times. Also you need to do a variety of training methods. I had a client at 125 pounds got to 175 in 6 months. It takes time. It takes diet, exercise, and, here it is SUPPLEMENTATION
ps I was 120 pounds at age 30
now 54
202
chest 48
arms 17
max rep bench press 355
multi reps at 225 35
body fat 15%

You need 2 things to gain muscle weight
1. A Heavy lifting program like a 5x5 or 3x5 program. Compound lifts will facilitate more muscle growth than body building splits. Checkout Starting Strength (Book) or StrongLIfts (website).
2. Calories. If you are a hard gainer, (sounds like you are) there is a method known as GOMAD which is advocated by many of the recognized strength coaches and strength athletes like Pendlay, Ripptoe and Wendler. Simply put drink 1 US gallon of whole milk per day. That is an extra 2400 calories containing fats, proteins, and carbs that your body needs to grow. In the words of Mark Ripptoe; “Baby mammals drink milk, and you sir, are a baby mammal.”
On a side note P90X won't cut it for bulking.
Also, you don’t NEED supplements. Supplements are designed to…. Wait for it… “supplement” the nutrients that you can get from food sources. If you eat clean whole foods; a protein source with every snack and meal and fruits and veggies with every meal you should be fine especially on a calorie surplus. I have nothing against supplements, I take a protein supplement, multi vitamin, fish oil and have taken creatine; I just hate when I see people saying that they are NEEDED.0 -

I agree that it might be a good idea to consult a doctor about it. Hyperthyroidism is a hormonal imbalance and could be a cause. Celiac's is a gluten intolerance that can cause damage in the small intestines and cause malabsorbtion of nutrients. Diabetes could be a cause if it's Type 1 diabetes, as this often leads to weight loss/inability to gain weight pre-diagnosis when blood sugar levels are too high.0 -

It is possible that there is a medical condition and wouldn’t necessarily be bad to have checked out. Some people also just have a genetic makeup that makes it difficult to gain weight without any underlying medical condition.0 -
I'm in the same boat... 6'3" 147 pounds. I've been trying my whole life to gain, in the last 2 years I've put on 4 pounds... the progress rate is very depressing. The one thing that also worries me is having to little body fat, 6 years ago I only had 5%... I'm not an athlete and therefore I should be over 10% if I want to be healthier, but its very hard to put anything on. I too have been poked, prodded, tested, and retested for a medical reason as to why I'm the way I am. The rest of my family were thin until about 22 years of age, then could gain weight normally... not me, 26 and still scrawny. I'm strong for my size, but most guys my size don't work out!
There have been some very good advice given in this post already... you'll just have to try things out and see how they work for you. Eating healthy snacks throughout the day works very well for me, a hard-boiled egg, a cup of rice, or buttered noodles with cheese are some of my favorites.0
