I'm looking for a good heart rate monitor that's not extremely expensive, but greatly accurate, that you can use in the water... I'm going to try and add swimming to my list of exercises. I'm particularly drawn to the Polar ones, but have yet to find one useable in the pool... Anyone know of a good one? Thanks!

The one I use is this one:

It hasn't been in the water per se but it has definitely been drowned in sweat

    Amazon has it for 39.99
  • I have a Polar FT7 and love it! It is water proof although I have not personally gone swimming with it. It is very accurate and it also has the ability for you to change the battery yourself. Many other models, you have to ship the monitor to the manufactorer to have the battery changed. It's simple to use and a great tool for tracking! Good luck!

I use my Polar FT4 in the pool every day. It is very accurate and I have never had any trouble going from in the pool to on land. I just make sure I rinse it well after each swim. I launder the chest strap about every 5th time I use it in the pool. The only thing is that Polar says to maintain the water resistance when changing the battery send it in the manufacturer instead of changing it by yourself. I hope this helps!

I know the Polar FT4 & FT7 are both water resistant to 30M (~90ft). Just make sure to not use the buttons while the unit is sumberged as this will let water in.

I have the FT4 and I love it. Accurate, comfortable and easy to use. Although I have not used it while swimming; I do a lot of water exercises (paddling, kayaking etc.) so it does get wet and I haven't had any issues.

Thank you so much! How often do the batteries need to be replaced?

Because they are waterproof, keep in mind you will either need to find a specialist or send it in to have the batteries replaced. I have had my polar for 4 years now and the battery is just now going low! I think the average replacement is 2 years.

Actually you can replace the batteries on the FT4 and FT7 your self now. So no more needing to send it in.

To OP: I have the FT7 and it's water proof. Also super easy to use and set up. Remember that you also need to wash the strap after every dip in the pool.. if you don't the chlorine could affect the sensors.
