I'm going on vacation for a week and I've been consistant and loyal with logging in everyday. I have MFP on my BlackBerry, but I'm worried I might get carried away with all the eating out. I've done amazingly well in one month and tomorrow will be my 30 day weigh in.
What ideas could you share with me to keep me on track while on vacation?

I'm going away for a week next week too!!
i plan on logging everything, even if I'm embarrassed by it. I'll have my trusty iPhone with me, and I need to keep myself accountable for everything that goes in my mouth... good or not so good!!
I'll also be walking everywhere while I'm away so hoping that will counteract some of the naughtiness that I'm sure will occur...0 -
hmm..remember you are on vacation, and you don't wanna slip backwards, BUT it's vacation, so it's ok to go over a bit..good luck and have FUN !!! :drinker:0

Even if you can't log in, get creative with working out each day. Fit in a walk, take the stairs, take advantage of any pools. Write down what you eat to keep yourself accountable. And try packing healthy snacks to have as back ups, or to at least keep you less hungry when you are around fast food. You will be fine! Enjoy yourself!0

Try to pre-plan and check restaurant info ahead of time as often as possible. Eat a sensible breakfast... every day! Don't skip that just because you're worried about calories, your metabolism will thank you. Be as active as you can be and enjoy! This is life, not a sprint to the finish. Skip the bread at dinner and ask for no cheese on salads... simple little things that will make eating out less stressful and more healthy but still allow you to enjoy vacation!
Have fun!0 -
When I went on vacation, I bumped my calories to maintenance. It felt like a LOT because I was used to eating 500 cals less, and I didn't gain an ounce!0

Try to make good choices whenever possible. Remember, this is about making BETTER choices, not always eating the best possible at every given moment. So realize that you won't eat as well as at home, but don't use that as an excuse to not make better choices when you can.0

I am also going on vacation next week and I will still be tracking my food and exercise, but I'm really not going to beat myself up about it if I go over. Vacation is not an all the time thing. I'm going to try to incorporate healthy choices in what I do eat out and I am going to plan some fairly active activities involving lots of walking and swimming along with a nightly run on the beach with my hubby. I figure I have to be able to function in the real world once I'm in maintenance mode and part of this journey is being aware of what I'm eating and how active I am. Don't worry...you'll be fine0

try to stick to fruits, veggies and lean meats. Keep the carbs down, and you will still feel great, and won't get off track.0

Go for "maintenanance" cals and up the activity levels if possible. Log, log, log! Most of the cals are in booze so beware! I'm going in two weeks. We can do it!!!!0

My hubby and I heading out to Vegas for a week on Saturday to celebrate our anniversary and I plan on just going with the flow, keeping my eye on the prize but not beating myself up about it. I will be drinking so +++ cals there for sure, but I will also be walking everywhere so hopefully it evens out! The truth will be told on the scale on July 14 ...0

I'm going on vacation in 13 days. I'm one of those weirdos who actually seems to eat and exercise MORE when I'm on vacation. I'll be eating lots of fresh fish, salads, and fresh fruit as they are the cheapest things to eat on the island since most everything else is imported. Plus they're healthy anyways!
My hotel has daily yoga which I'll be taking advantage of, as well as going hiking, swimming, snorkeling, walking on the beach, etc. I'm sure you'll have lots of opportunities to exercise, even if it's just walking around exploring. Don't feel too guilty about what you eat, and log everything. I plan to so I can keep myself in check, but I'm not going to beat myself up if I go over on my calories as long as I'm enjoying myself.0 -
I really appreciate everyone's input. I will keep all of your ideas handy. I also looked into nearby gyms to get at least 3 days of a workout. We do plan on going to amusement parks, so there is going to be plenty of walking in my future.0

I didn't mention where...San Antonio, TX. So far we have Sea World and Fiesta Texas planned. From what I hear...a ton of walking.0

I would try to preplan meals as much as possible. While on vacay go into maintenance mode so you can enjoy yourself and not sabotage any of your hard work. Since you are going to amusement parks I would stick to water instead of sodas, if it's not diet those calories really start to add up. I'm sure your body will be grateful for it anyway......Texas is HOT!!! )0

If you want your weightloss to be permament, you have to make it a lifestyle so it should matter if you are on vacation or not, right? With that said, it's okay to treat yourself every now and then, especially if you are craving something. Just remember, moderation is the key! Good luck, have fun and hope to hear from you when you get back, tell us how you did!0

I've noticed recommendations of "maintaining" mode. How do I do that on MFP?0
