Hey all - so yes after 2 weeks of being very good at logging everything and eating back all my exercise calories pretty much, save for a few days when I was about 150 under, I am taking the scary step oof trying to maybe eat a bit more as I can't believe ive actually put on a 1lb! I really do feel quite frustrated to be honest, as I feel better and was really confident I would have lost at least a llb, but was shocked to find that this is not the case today:(

Just to give you some background - I have a fairly sedentary job, but try to get up and about and walk to meetings etc etc....... I have always been active outside of work and cycle at least 9 miles a day (wknds 20 or so!) and on most days do HIIT training for about 25 minutes. Some days I jog/walk alternately for 30 mins and other days pilates for 30 mins or so, and I dont feel like I can do much more exercise without eating more! This weight loss thing is driving me mad. My diet is pretty good and I dont eat low fat anything, lots of nuts, fruit, oats, rice, water and enough protein to keep my muscles happy.

I only want to lose about 10lbs to be back at where I feel most confident, and am feeling a bit de-motivated - I'm due to havea 2 weeks holiday soon and am thinking I might just have a complete break from exercise and see what happens!

I'd appreciate any advice, but realise sooo many people have this issue and I guess it is trying to find what works!

Thanks, Jenny

Do you do any type of circuit training with cardio and resisance work like DB, body weight, bands ect? You need to do strength training to help build lean muscle mass. Lean muscle burns calories. I don't just mean lifting weights but using other tools. Just doing cardio will not do it.

Would love to see your food logs.

With needing so little to lose it's going to be tougher. I don't see any resistance trainging in your post. Adding muscle will increase your metabolism and burn off fat. You might not go down in scale weight but you will go down in size because muscle is leaner and sexier than fat.
Most women with this type of post are under eating so yeah, you might have to eat more to lose weight. Need to see food log to tell for sure. Also don't do HIIT every day. HIIT should be done every other day. I real good program is a split resistance / HIIT program on alternating days.
The 1 lb gain could just be water weight...don't freak out about it. Just keep going.

Hey thanks for the replies - in answer to both your questions - yes I do include body weight exercises and hand weights of approx 2.5 kgs with my HIIT training, lots of squats, lunges, push ups and chest press etc etc.... but I quit the gym 6 months ago so dont have access to anything heavier (nor am I strong enough I dont think!) I think I might try the circuit stuff every other day instead of almost every day and cant remeber the last time I had a full day off of all activities so maybe I should just try not moving for a day :)

Here are some reliable takes on fitness plateaus..

On a few occasions I've gone a few weeks without seeing the scale move. I usually have about 1200 net calories per day (with exercise I eat 1800-1900). Both times, at the end of the second week of not seeing the scale move I got discouraged and went out for mexican food and margaritas which I know are terrible for me. In these instances I increased my net calorie consumption to about 2000 calories for a single day. In both cases I weighed on Sunday morning (roughly 36 hours after my friday night indulgence) expecting to see a big set back and was surprised to see that I was back on track in both cases and had actually lost weight since my weigh in the previous Sunday.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that increasing my calories caused me to loose weight, but it did show me that I can still meet my goals with one higher net calorie day every so often.

Haha thanks for that - have a family party this weekend so am just going to eat what I like and not worry too much - will check back next week and let you know if it worked, as in the past (years back I lost 20lbs after being fat in my late teens!) and I do recall that on days I went over, it seemed to help my losses overall!
