Weight training can't be lumped into a single category. We can't say, "weight training burns minimal calories." There are endless ways to weight train... some of them will be more calorie expensive than others.0

Weight training can actually burn a LOT of calories. The problem is, it's impossible to track how many calories it burns accurately. There are way too many factors to make a blanket number. The intensity of the exercise, the weight being used, the fitness level of the person doing the exercise,muscle tone, all play a factor. A person who has never done a dumbbell curl and a person who does 100 curls a day will both burn vastly different amounts of calories while doing curls. There's really no way to generalize it accurately.0

You don't burn many calories while doin weight training. At max 50 calories for the normal weight lifter. However, it does burn fat. It keeps your metabolism spiked so you'll end up burning a few extra calories over time and in the mean time it burns away @ the fat. Leaving you lean
But unfortantly weight lifting alone doesn't burn alot of calories which is why you should always include cardio afterwards to give you a good calorie burn. Hope I could be of some help.
Note: that is from the reserach I have done. But considering not everyone works out the same way and everyone's bodies burn calories at different amounts it depends on different variables. But track it with a HRM and see for yourself. That's my advice0 -

Absolutely correct - If you do a High Intensity Circuit (interval training) for weight - I burn MORE calories in 30 minutes than I do on the Elliptical, but if I just do standard weight training - I burn roughly 1/3...

It is hard to calculate the amount of calories burned in lifting.
However, they do allow for a "Weight Training" option under the cardio section here. The number is VERY low, but it gives SOME credit.0 -

Again, you can't categorically say "weight training burns 50 calories." It's going to depend on the contents of the program, the individual, etc.
And the caloric burn after weight lifting isn't all that great, believe it or not. For any exercise really, it's not all that great.
What traditional strength training does, primarily in the context of this forum, is it provides a stimulus for muscle preservation while losing fat. Put differently, it improves the quality of weight lost... which is why it's not solely about the number on the scale. It's about body composition too.0
