Is the vegan diet the way to go? Should we eliminate meat completely? Any thoughts...

if you do you need an amino acid replacement
your body needs essential amino acids that are found in meats, otherwise, you cannot build lean, strong muscle tissue
free from branch chain amino acids

No, you don't NEED to eliminate meat to have a healthy diet. Just make sure you monitor your calorie, fat and sugar/carb intake and you should be fine.

I personally think a vegan diet is the best way to go, but there are obviously many food choices you can make and still be healthy. I would recommend checking out Kris Carr's book, Crazy Sexy Diet if you're at all interested in trying out being a vegetarian or vegan. It's what really opened my eyes to what vegan eating does for your body and how animal products affect you. It's great because it isn't too preachy either- they don't bash you over the head with it- just give you a lot of information and let you decide for yourself. It's been the best health and diet related book I've ever read and has truly changed my life. Happy eating!

I am not vegan though I have tried it out with my parents before. I dont think you have to choose one or the other, personally my day to day diet fluctuates from anything like eating meat to vegetarian to days where I just happen to go vegan. Something I will say for Vegan and vegetarian they have some FABULOUS recipes!!!!! so dont just go one or the other! You can have an absolutely delicious full meal and it just might happen to be vegan :)! look up some recipes and see if you want to incorporate some dishes into your normal meals! I highly recommended it! switching up protein sources helped me from getting bored with just chicken and beef during losing weight! hope this helps give you some ideas!
