Hey guys
I've got family coming to visit over the holiday weekend and I'm wondering what/if I should change for food and drinks. My aunt and cousin (who are both health conscious, whew!) will be staying 2 nights. And both sets of my grandparents will be visiting and a few more loved ones as well. We normally don't buy soda and have both been very good at keeping the sweets out. I'm not saying we forbid them, I've gotten much better at portion control (thanks to my new scale!), and I do enjoy a treat I want everyone to have something to enjoy that's healthy!
I always have cold water, iced tea, milk, and cranberry juice and OJ. Any other suggestions for ready made drinks?? I will be having cocktails, but I also don't want to break the bank! :glasses: Any suggestions are welcome!!!
My parents are already bringing beer bratwurst and a pasta salad. I'm thinking grilled chicken is easy and healthy with a side salad. Maybe jello with fruit for dessert?
Again, any suggestions are much appreciated :flowerforyou:

Fruit Salsa
2 Green Apples Diced really small
4 Kiwi Diced
1 Pint Strawberries Diced
2Tbsp Sugar (or Sugar Substitute)
2Tbsp Fruit Preserves (Whatever's in your fridge will work fine)
2Tbsp OJ
Mix all together and serve with cinnamon chips. It's good enough I just eat it without the chips.....If you cant find cinnamon chips, you can cut flour tortillas in triangles, dip in water put on a baking sheet and sprinkle them with cinnamon and a bit of sugar and bake til crispie. It's fancy looking and easy and semi healthy....0 -
Cocktail shrip for appetizers. Crystal Light Raspberry Lemonade is really good too.0

I would prepare extra of what you are eating now. I'm sure they will enjoy whatever you put out for them. Part of the fun in visiting is trying new things. Veggies and Humus are always a hit when I have guests. A fancy fruit platter is nice to have if you want something the graze on while sitting around.
As for drinks I think you have a good variety already. If someone is that picky they will probably go pick up what they want. Maybe announce that you are having a signature drink for the weekend. You can make up a big pitcher of whatever you like - add some limes etc and make it look festive.
We're doing all seafoods over the 4th. I'm hoping to stay away from the junk that will be put out between meals. I plan on being in the lake swimming & kayaking as much as possible! But I will be eating at least one strawberry shortcake with real whipped cream!! Tradition is tradition!!
Happy 4th everyone!!0 -

Renaejae, thanks so much! I've got a new hummus recipe to try tomorrow and if it's good I'll make more for family! You're right about the beverages too...A big veggie plate is in order for sure.
Thanks guys! Happy 4th to all! :drinker:0
