My husband and I are going out f town with my family for the 4th. I was just wondering how other people are handling this weekend. My original thought was that I was going to do good all week then take this weekend off. Still be careful about what I eat and how much, just not keep count. Now I'm not so sure that is the best way to handle it. My family is supportve so I don't think they would mind if took foods that I can eat and stay on plan. I just know that they will have good food and probably margaritas that I wil want.

Portion control, load up on veggies and salad then leave a small amount of room on the plate for protein and carbs.
Limit yourself to 1 margarita, they are loaded with sugar and they can be a lot of empty calories. 1 won't hurt, but take your time and enjoy it slowly.

Offer to bring a veggie platter, hummus dip, salad, something that you know is good for you and can still be enjoyed by everyone else.

I'm going to 2 BBQs and I'm going to do everything I stated above. Everyone knows that I am watching my diet and I found that a lot of people follow my lead and what I eat.

Keep hydrated, it'll keep you feeling fuller so you're likely to eat less. But by all means, it's a national holiday with family, EAT! You'll be fine, put your fork down between bites, don't pick it up again until you're completely finished chewing and swallowing. Once again, KEEP DRINKING WATER! You'll end up having less margaritas that way :)

I would compromise between food and the margaritas. Margaritas have over 700 cals traditionally. Say, if you really want a margarita, you can only have super healthy, low cal foods. But if you skip the margarita, you can have whatever foods. Or you can drink a lower cal alcholic beverage (you can search the threads for tons of ideas) and go moderate on the foods.

Either way, a lot of us will probably go over our calorie goals. But if it's a once in a blue moon thing, it won't absolutely kill all the progress you have made. Just remember it's about a lifestyle change, that has really helped me grow accustomed to how I eat and drink in social situations.

I always offer to bring the healthy stuff - cheese cubes, fruit platter, veggie tray....

I'm with you - have a day (or weekend) OFF! I do a cheat day every couple of weeks, but especially if I'm going somewhere where it's hard to count the calories. You know what's healthy and what's not - eat MORE of one and LESS of the other. Enjoy yourself, don't stress over the calories and yes, drink lots of water. Have a GREAT weekend!

I say eat in moderation and enjoy it. You are not going to gain 5 pounds in 2 days. We are going to a Rodeo I don't know how healthy that will be so I will drink lots of water and watch my portions but that's it!

Bring SkinnyGirl margaritas! 100 calories a glass!

It's all about moderation. As others said, drink water, hover around veggie platters and don't over fill the plate.

I would also suggest HAVING WHAT YOU WANT just modify it. You want a burger? Sure! Little cheese, no bun and top with veggies. Or, get a veggie burger. Dip VEGGIES in guacamole instead of chips. Avoid the salads with mayonnaise (potato/egg etc) and go for the pasta salads (usually made with italian dressing).

If you have younger kids in your family, run around with them! Start up a game of kick ball or tag!

    HAVE FUN!

Thank you all so much for the advice. I am feeling much better about the whole thing. I just talked to my sister-in-law. She said we can go shopping when I get there. They will do grilled vegies and lean meats along with other foods. That will make it much easier. Then I can just have tastes of the things that really look good but fill up on the healthy foods. The lower calorie margaritas are a great idea too! :-) I hope everyone has a good Holiday!
