Interesting! I will have to read the full article from the JOSC when I get into the hospital (and have access to Ovid). I had just read a small study from last year that showed some benefit from a partial fast workout, in that it created an increase in the depth of glycogen storage and rapidly increased v02 max in the untrained. I wonder how the studies line up, or if they actually measured the same things? Personally, I never work out from a fasting state, as I treasure my glycogen stores and steward them throughout the week.
  • OK, that's all well and good, but I agree that if I eat and then do my run I will throw up. And I can't eat 1.5 hours before my workout because I'm already getting up between 5 and 6 in the morning as it is!!!

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to lose and re-build muscle every day...

I honestly think you can prevent all that just by using a gu 15 minutes before and sipping 15-30gms of carbohydrate laden sports drink throughout.

Interesting. I absolutely can't work out on an empty stomach. When I tried it, I felt like everything was 10 times harder and my workout sucked.

Or you could train fasted using BCAA's as your fuel. Has worked outstanding for myself and others...
