Hello to old friends and new ones!

This forum group is for those of us who are shorter in stature. We have found that while some of our journey is the same as our taller MFP'ers, there are some things that are just harder when you are shorter.

We are halfway through 2011 as of today. How are you doing? Are you going to make your health and fitness goals?

I have been a member for a few years now and I think I would have given up if not for the people of MFP and the support.

Have a wonder 4th of July to everyone in the states and Happy Canada Day to all of our friends north of the border.

Jeannie

 my goal for June was to dance more so I guess my neighbors have seen me dancing as I walk the poodles in the morning, I taught a dance in the beginner line dance class, and i went to an all day line dance workshop

:drinker: :drinker: I haven't figured out my goals for July, but when i do, I'll put them in my signature so I can see them every day

 let's enjoy the long and warm days of summer and get extra fit and healthy

    Hi Jeanne & Everyone!!

I am not sure how I am doing as I'm still on crutches from my foot surgery so I haven't weighed and I'm really scared to! I see the dr again on Thursday so I am hoping he will say I can starting putting some weight on my foot. It is healing nicely. At that time I will see what I can do. I haven't really been "exercising" because these stupid crutches absolutely wear me out. They are workout enough. I am really surprise at the energy they take out of me!

Anyway - good luck to everyone else and Happy 4th of July to American!!

    Hi Barbie,

I just love the graphics. Thank you. I agree with you on posting goals to make you more accountable by seeing them everyday.

    Hi Kim,
Hang in there. Can you go in a pool yet? If so, try exercising in water. Check with your doctor to see if you can exercise in the water wearing a life vest. The vest keeps you from putting any weight on your surgery side. You can walk, jog, do lunges etc in the water without bearing any weight. When my daughter had her hip surgery she had to do everything for 2 weeks in the water before she could do it on land. If your doctor looks at you like you are crazy, tell him you heard about it from some one who had surgery at the Steadman Clinic in Vail Colorado. Most doctors have heard of them. If you try this, go during lap time and not during recreational swim time. But, that is another story. lol Our public pools were fantastic supporting us during my DD's recovery.

I have not done well the first 6 months of 2011. I haven't gained, but I haven't loss. The worse thing is, I got out of the habit of 30 minutes x6 days a week for exercise. Getting back into that routine is painful, but not as bad as when I started. To ground myself I am going back to what I use to do before I could exercise for a whole 30 minutes at a time. 10 minutes here,10 minutes there. lol

    Have a great day all,

    Jeannie

Can I join the group? I'm 5'3" and find that it can be tough to lose weight-especially as I've gotten older! Plus, it seems that any extra pounds show more readily on us "fun-sized" girls. I love that term, by the way!

Welcome to the group. You've joined just by posting. What kind of exercise do you do? I love to walk and most of my walking is done with my standard poodles who never get enough.

:flowerforyou: Jeannie, that's a great idea to do all those exercises in the pool:bigsmile:  also, exercising 10 minutes at a time is good for all of us......I have time usually, but sometimes I just have to grab those 10 minute bites.

 welcome, Bri, you joined just by posting.....we are glad to have you with us. I read your profile and saw your weight loss goal....I am 5'3" and have reached my goal weight of 110 so I don't think your goal of 100 is unrealistic at all. I like being thin and it doesn't matter that some of my friends made rude remarks like I was fading away.....they were used to me being huge (I weighed 183 when I started MFP)

what kind of exercise do you do? where do you live? do you have pets or children? do you work or go to school? tell us more about you

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! Summer months are the best because it's so easy to get outside and be active. I live outside of Denver and we are fortunate to have lots of bike trails in our neighborhood. I love to workout-spin class, pilates, walking, biking, weight training, etc. If I'm doing something, I'm happy! How about you all? What do you enjoy doing for workouts?

Fitto - I am outside of Albuquerque, so we are MFP neighbors. I like to walk my dogs, swim and I hope to get back into riding my horse. We usually go up to Colorado for vacation, but won't be making it this year. Denver is a nice city and there is so much to do outdoors in both of our states. Right now, all public lands are closed due to fire danger.

I make myself work out with weights, but I'd never say I like it. I just know how important it is and do it.

Barbie - I know I've said this before, but I really do just love the poodle pictures. They to look "frisky" even sitting still.

    Happy 4th everyone!!

Welcome newbies!! Bri I am at my goal of 100lbs and you will get there soon! Just stick with it and it will happen I promise!!

Barbie the puppies look super excited in their pic.

Jam I'm glad to see you still hanging in with us!

My goal for this month is to try exercise everday! I have been so busy with running back and forth to the hospital everyday. After my stepdads accident it has been a struggle to even eat somewhat healthy much less get any exercise in. So my goal is to try to exercise everyday.

I hope everyone has a great day!!! :flowerforyou:

Babygurl1- I had forgotten you had reached your goal and when I saw it posted, I got excited for you again. lol

I am hanging in there. I thought the scale would go down a little this morning, but it did not. Oh well. I have been doing better at getting in exercise everyday and that continues to be my goal. It is such an easy habit to break, and such a hard one to get going again.

    Everyone -

How did you do over the 4th? I bet we all did better this year than we have in the past. I did OK. We stayed home and took it easy. With both kiddos in very intense summer school math programs, we had quiet time for homework everyday including the 4th itself. (As a mom I hope they have learned to not have to go to summer school again!)

Thanks Jam..I am still pretty excited myself. It's a good feeling to be there!

I did okay on the 4th. I feel like I am snacking to much though. Time to cut that out. My daughter is playing allstars in softball so things have been super busy with my stepdad's accident and running her to practices and games. I'm making it though and will be squeezing some exercise in when I can. Have a good one everyone. :glasses:

    Thank you Jam.
I have been reading the forum, just not posting anything. I havent been losing weight, I have been gaining a lb here and there. I have decided I am just going to try and keep my weight from going up. My clothing size hasn't changed even though I have gained so I am not going to worry much.

Babygurl - It sounds like we are in the same place when it comes to having a busy life. I think I am some what older than you and I wish I could tell you it gets easier, but that may or may not happen. I do know that you are lucky in that you figured out earlier than I did how important it is to take care of yourself.

Annita -I am glad to hear your clothes size hasn't changed. That is a good thing. Just take one day at a time and don't beat yourself up if you have a bad day. I know some people feel that posting helps keep the blues away. Some people get quiet when things are hard. Keep in touch and post your victories no matter how small they are.

My mom had a real eye opener at the age of 93. She just realized that even though she did everything she could for my brother through out his life I am the one who has always done for her even though she did a lot less for me and my kids. Her and Dad want to change their will to be more equitable between my brother and I when they pass. She always thought he would take care of her and had it set up for him to get more compensation than me if there is anything left. Now, it will be split right down the middle as it should be. They have lived with my family and I since 2003. My brother is missing something (besides the aggravation and responsibility. lol) and everything that goes around comes around.

    Have a great evening all,

    Jeannie

    Hi all.

Do you ever get vaguely insulted when someone who is at a healthy weight, looks good, exercises regularly and can still buy clothes that are TOO BIG for them in the misses or juniors section but complains constantly that they are fat?:grumble: I have an aunt that probably tops out at 5'-5" and 150lbs but complains that she is fat and can't lose weight. She looks really good for 45, is toned and pretty and picks up guys my age. I feel bad when she talks about being on a diet and exercising because of her weight because I want to tell her to talk about it away from me; someone who is 3" shorter and will never get down to her goal weight without wiring my mouth shut (for the rest of my life) and exercising every waking moment that I am not at work. I love here but she makes me depressed. Enough about the depression causing aunt.

I am still horseback riding although it is only for an hour a week because I am still learning to steer. Otherwise I don’t get much exercise. My only excuse is that there isn’t that many hours in the day. Cutting out 2 hours of sleep so I could go to the gym didn’t go well, and I still can’t cut out a meal to get time either. I try to go hiking on Saturdays but it depends on whether someone asks for a ride or not. What I am eating is still pretty much the same as before. I think I could probably lose weight on a 1200 calorie diet but then I would plateau and and start gaining again, even on the minimum # of Kcal’s required.

Have a good weekend all.:drinker:

    Annita,

I would tell her that it depresses you. If she still does it, not sure what you can do about it.

I would love to ride once a week. All of the trails in New Mexico are closed due to the fire hazard. I just can't ride in cirlces any more in a pen. lol I may bring my horse for a walk today. Litterally, I walk her on a lead line. There are too may cars to ride her on the road. She is good, but people don't slow down. For some reason, when you are leading a horse they actually slow down.

I am so bummed. I have put on 3 pounds in the last month. Not sure why, but starting to accept it and reason it out.

We are suppose to get rain this weekend. Which means we may be going from a severe drought to monsoon season without any good riding weather in between.

We are babysitting a 9 year old daughter of a formwer co-worker and friend tomorrow and looking forward to having a littler one around. We are bringing her swimming with us, then out for lunch and ice cream. It will probably cost more than my daughter will get paid for it, but it will be fun.

I graduated on my riding lessons on Saturday. I made it around the obstacle course on my own without my instructor having to call out corrections. So, next week she takes me out on the trails and I learn how to ride in stirrups; because so far I have ridden bareback or in saddle without stirrups. I am ging to try and go swimming tomorrow; morning or afternoon it doesn’t really matter to me.

    Have a good day all.

So yesterday I type a post, and apparently for got to hit POST REPLY, so now I am rewriting it.

Tuesday I packed my duffle to go to the gym and swim, but I left my house without; so I didn't go swimming because I would have had to back track from my house for about 5 miles to get back to the pool. That's why I only go when I am working, because it is on my way to or from work.
I did the same thing yesterday and I am always in the middle of traffic on the freeway before I remember it. Ahhh … but I solved the absent mindedness this morning. I pu my duffle infomt of my front door before I even fed my cats this morning. So I WLL be swimming this afternoon.

This Saturday is my aunt's (not the aunt from the previous post) belated surprise birthday party. I have no idea what everyone is bringing.

It's only a gathering of family but even then I find that I get lost around them; I don't join conversations much because I have no point of reference, and I often have more in common with their kids then I do with the adults. I don’t have kids, I’m not married nor do I have a boyfriend and I don’t have a “girl” job (like secretary, exec assistant, sales person, teacher, nurse … you get the idea), I actually don’t have much to talk about with my family. I think it is like this with everyone as teenagers, as it was for me, but I thought I’d have something more in common as I got older … but I am just as much the odd man out now as I was then. At least I can play with the kids and if any of the guys have home improvement questions they will talk to me.

I am not losing weight that I know of because I am not stepping on my scale; we've had a legal separation and will be seeing other people/apparatus until we can agree on what it is supposed to call me. Food is a constant battle, I feel like I am breaking even, but I think I am losing the battle to covert missions.

    Have a good thursday all.

:flowerforyou: Annita, I have spent a lot of my life feeling like I don't fit in. It took me into my 40's before I found people that I was comfortable with. I don't have any solutions except to tell you that you are not alone. Even now that I have friends and a husband, I am often most comfortable doing things by myself.

:flowerforyou: Things are pretty stressful here now and we're trying to take it one minute at a time. We had to have our 16 year old cat, Haifa, euthanized on Tuesday.     He had been our sweet pet since 1995 when we found him abandoned at a rest stop. He had a happy life with us and we miss him.

:flowerforyou: after having our house on the market for six months, we got two offers to buy it (one on Tuesday and the other on Wednesday). We accepted the better offer, went to look at a house that we wanted to buy and made an offer on that house. It took until late this afternoon to get a response and it turns out that the mother of the people selling the house had died a few days ago so they were preoccupied with things other than selling their mom's house.

 today we went to two lavender farms at the local lavender festival and ate lunch and lavender white chocolate ice cream. the last time I had ice cream was last year at the lavender festival so it was a great treat.

Annita, I am the country cousin to a city dwelling family. I fully understand how you feel about no point of reference. Luckily, all of us cousin's did manage to stay close. Most of the stories are about them and not my brother and I, but we were there when it happened and it was funny.

Barbie, congradulations on your house selling and on getting a new one. You and Jake are very luckily considering what the market has been like the last few years. I hope the new house works out well for you.

We are making plans to go to the lake on August 4th for a long weekend. That means no MFP for 6 days and my logging days start over.

Next weekend hubby and I are going to a lake side resort for the weekend. Both kids will be in training camps for 10 days and we are taking advantage of it. We are not taking the boat as that is a lot of work and I want to sleep by the pool. Ever since hubby gave into taking the meds the doctors have been giving him all these years, he is a much nicer person. But, the meds aren't something you want to take for the rest of your life, so we hope the workman comp doctor's can actually help him. But, in the mean time it is nice for the kids and I not having him in pain all the time. He was really quite grumpy from morning to night.

Oh, by the way, we still have our stationary bike. As soon as I tried to sell it, everyone started using it again. <-that is good for me.

    Have a great Sunday,

    Hey everyone,

Annita is right. We need to start talking. Talking is one thing I am usually very good at.

Both of out kids were suppose to be away. Hubby and I were suppose to be at a spa and resort for the weekend.

But, Mom changed her mind at the last minute about being OK alone with Dad for the weekend and we could not find a last minute housesitter.

My son got dizzy and passed out when they were making the cadets stand and march in the hot sun, so they sent him home from recruit training for his military high school.

So, here we are at home with kids. But, everyone one is OK, so all is well.

I did insist that hubby and I still go out to dinner and I did find a local spa with an opening for at least one hour for us.

we are getting ready to move......escrow closes on the house we're selling on August 9 and on the one we're buying on August 10 and we have until the 19th to be totally out so we are packing and cleaning a bit every day.

:flowerforyou: however, we are still planning our meals and finding time for exercise.....the dogs need to walk and play so my exercise that includes them continues......the nice weather is motivating to go outside with them.

:flowerforyou: today I took them for a walk in the new neighborhood and they liked it

:brokenheart: Jeannie, I'm sorry your plans got so messed up but it sounds like you landed on your feet and found a good alternative so you and hubby could still have quality time together:bigsmile:

 Annita, a lot of people stay away from the scale and find that helps them. I hope it makes a difference for you. Never, never, never give up

I hope everyone is doing well the fourm has been pretty quite as of late. I am going to see my surgeon tomorrow because he was called into emergency surgery last Thursday and wasnt able to hold our appointment. This hernia is so painful not to mention I am not suppose to workout at all. I have gained 7 pounds over the last 3 weeks....Granted I'm not able to exercise but my eating hasn't been all that different from before. I am stressed to the max about no working out. One of the side effect of the hernia is constipation along with the pain meds they gave me that are not really helping and I think I have found my 7lb weight gain.:grumble: It is so frustrating!!!!! My stomach is so bloated I look like I'm pregnant WTH!!! It stays like this all the time. I just wish he would schedule this now!!! :explode: :explode: I'm over all this lets do it already!! Ok I'm done complaining sorry if I grossed you out. Hope you guys have a good day.
