Still sore

I recently started weight training again this week. I worked out on Wednesday and took Thursday off to let my muscles repair and let the soreness fade. It didn't - it still hurt on Friday so I skipped the weights again. I am ready to hit it again today but I'm still sore. I understood that I shouldn't lift if I am sore as it might hurt something.

I lifted weights regularly when I was younger - so the soreness is familiar and I'm not concerned that it's more serious than the result of a good workout. I didn't expect it to last 3 days though.

My question is, I suppose, what are your opinions on working out muscles that are still sore from the previous workout - even if it has been 3 days?

If you go more than 72 hours between strength workouts you will start to lose whatever you built last time. As a rule of thumb do strength training every 48 hours. Sore muscles just mean that you adequately tore the fibers during your workout & they are now rebuilding themselves. I spent the better part of my high school years sore from head to toe. However, if you cross the line into over-worked/injury soreness then take another day or two off.

When i'm sore I take a day off & next time I do my hubby tells me pish ups help losen the muscles up again so tey can get better. I wouldn't wait any longer. Maybe take a few lbs less his time

It just seems that if they are still sore it means they are still rebuilding and since the positive growth happens in the rebuilding phase working them more would be clipping the potential of the rebuilding process.

    Am I wrong?
